Topic: A couple of Strat projects
Ok so my dad has this 50's Classic Stratocaster in a carolina blue color and a maple neck.
Last year he had a friend sale him a MIM Standard sunburst stratocaster, a different friend sold him a Chandler neck that in my dads mind feels way better and has birds eye maple and the darkest rosewood fret board you can buy. So he has me install it on the MIM Sunburst along with Seymour Duncan Pro Alinico II pickups and honestly the guitar was a monster after that.
Now flash forward the Carolina Blue Strat is his favorite because of the color and he's a huge Tar Heels fan. Last night he asked me to remove the maple neck off the 50's Classic and install the Chandler neck with the birds eye maple in its place. He also wants the pickups swapped out of the guitars. For my troubles he is going to give me the maple V neck from the 50's classic. I am supposed to sale the other body on ebay but..... I didn't do that yet.
I have a cheap black starcaster body that is basically the same as a MIM Standard but cheaper wood. I've built this guitar over a dozen times with humbuckers or single coils and it sound great. That was my plan to install the neck on it and make a Blackie look alike. But after just messing around with it and the sunburst I found that the sunburst had a striking look alike of EC's Brownie. I fell in love with it, and honestly don't wanna build that black one again. So my question I guess is which one would be the better to build and how far do you think I should go to recreate either guitar.
My dad bought the Sunburst for $100 and I've already sold that neck on ebay for exactly the same amount that he paid for the guitar in the first place so I doubt he'll be mad at me for either buying it for $50 or taking it all together. Pickups are going to be the 50's Classic pickups which are Tex Mex. I'm going to purchase a brass tremelo block from GFS and an EMI Sheild from them. If I dislike the pickups I think I will also do the GFS 70's overwound Maximum Power. They are supposed to be the best of the 70's and are a lot beefier then the 50's and 60's. My camera is missing its usb chord or I would post a few pics from last night when I stayed up and swapped everything. Was lazy and just clipped the lead and 2 grounds on both guitars to splice into them later.
