Yeah Maggie - as you know, I got there at about 8.45 and Chantel had just kicked off her set. She played until 11pm without any breaks, which is quite something these days. Most bands seem to do the standard 90mins these days. Chantel really is a pleasure to watch and her interaction with the audience, between songs, is quite enchanting. Her northern charm is a winner. She coverred about 5 JB faves including Had to Cry Today, Mountain Time and A new Day Yesterday (what else was there Maggie, my memory is on low?) - she also did a great cover of SRV's Lenny and the Hendrix classics, Red House and Voodoo Chile. She played some of her own material, a few of them acoustic numbers, which were very nice too. All in all, a great night - about 100 or so there, which considering this was her first London gig, was a very good turnout. Go and see Chantel if you get the chance. Her band can really rock and are well worth seeing.
Edit note: Watch out for some Prakash youtube vids of this gig soon.

Sounds good Eldo.
I'm well disappointed now - she was due to play in Wolverhampton tonight but it's been postponed - rescheduled for September, but I can't make the new date.
She's an artist I've wanted to catch for a while now, but it's not that often she ventures south of the M62 corridor it seems.

Chantel give great renditions of Sloe Gin and Bridge to Better Days.
Not only is Chantel an amazing guitarist with a powerful yet tender voice her personality on stage is very engaging.
As Eldo has said definitely go and see her if you get the chance.

Thanks Maggie - its all coming back to me now - didn't she also do a Joe Satriani instrumental, or did it just sound like a Joe type tune? Chantel mentioned that she is recording a session for the Paul Jones Radio show next week at the Maida Vale studios. She is also playing Boom Boom Club, Sutton on sunday 25th April and the 100 Club, London on 26th May, so maybe she'll be a regular at London/Feenstra venues in the future.
Edit: My memory was good in places - The Satriani tune is UP IN THE SKY - here is Chantel's version:

Beaverwood???? LOL!!!! Sounds like a name Beavis & Butthead would dream up. No knock on Chantel, I've seen some of her on youtube, she's very talented.

Is there a Boom Boom club in Beaverwood?
For anyone interested, you can virtually watch the whole gig on this link from Prakash.................. http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p … 51020A68F8
Hi, just joined and this is my first post.
This thread for Chantel caught my eye, as I too was fortunate enough to be at The Beaverwood on Tuesday night. Chantel, and her band, put on a stunning performance. My first chance to see her play live.
Got to chat with Chantel before the gig, and she is such lovely girl off stage. Very warm and friendly, and her mum and dad are really nice people as well. Chantel even dedicated Freefalling to me. I told her before the show that I really like the song, and that I caught myself singing it to myself while walking into town the day before the gig. That made her smile!
I was expecting Chantel to play, maybe for an hour and a half. But she played for much longer than that. Not only is she already a really great guitarist, she has a great vocal as well. And her stagecraft is very impressive. It wasn't packed, but it was a very decent sized , and enthusiastic audience. Chantel was very pleased that so many people had come to see her, as she stepped into the unknown territory of the south east.
Can't wait to do it all again at The Boom Boom Club in Sutton on Sunday.

You're one lucky person! Based on the little I've heard, but will check out the Prakesh videos, I think Chantel will be huge. That girl can sing the phonebook and what a guitarist! Did she by chance mention anything about recorded material availability to you? I can't wait for her first cd since her graduation.
I'll be at the Boom Boom on Sunday Steve.

Hi Maggie,
Just making up the set list for the Boom Boom Club tomorrow. Tripsy has emailed saying that Prakash has lost "Sloe Gin", so there's a definite one to include. Probably throw something different in as well.
See you soon,
Love,
Chantel
Just arrived home after my second Chantel McGregor gig in six days. As at Beaverwood on Tuesday the Boom Boom was pretty crowded. Just love Chantel's version of 'Sloe Gin' and sat behind Prakash as he videoed it and some songs not on Tuesday's set list. We had another extended set including beautiful versions of Bonnie Raitt songs 'Angel from Montgomery' and 'I can't make you love me'. The set also included 'Up in the Sky', 'Daydream', and 'High' as well as 'Bridge to Better Days', Had to Cry Today' and 'New Day Yesterday' as one of the encores.
I really enjoyed Chantel's own songs 'I'm no good for you' and 'Freefalling'. Such a very talented young woman.
Thank you Tripsy for putting Chantel on my list of artists not to be missed.
Maggie
