It's so funny how Alex can play those really cool drum parts in Hot For Teacher, yet have to struggle with the rhythm needed to fit in with the guys in the choreographed "dancing" parts of the video, where he is obviously not keeping up or keeping time well!!!  lol

that trio should be illegal. Weckl is correct I think? I grew up on Jeff Porcaro, an all time fav he showed up on so many tasty records. seems like he played a little with Steely Dan in studio. like Mike Portnoy also, his work on the live CD set is incredible imo.

Ah... thanks for that correction! Agree with you about Jeff Porcaro. I grew up with him too. Have to search for a good clip... smile

Re: Drummers Corner

Wow.  All drummers well named in this thread.  I give my brother Bogie full credit, as well.

However if Steve Gadd walks in the room...well... bowing and scraping would be appropriate.

and Steve Bagby RIP.

yes, thanks Bogie for an impressive list. I blinked at Stevie W and then remembered that he did play drums in concert when he opened for the Stones Exile on Main Street tour. in fact, he played almost every instrument on stage, they led him around by the arm from one to the next. I think at least an honorable mention should go out to Stix Hooper, and Joe you know covers that Never Make Your Move.. thing well on HTCT. Bonnie Raitt also covered it. I saw Stix with the Jazz Crusaders, also with Larry Carlton at that time in the early 70's. Mr Stix lit it up for sure. I did not know that Prince plays drums, but should not surprise anyone.

I might be wrong.....but didn't Stevie play drums on, Innervisions ? I think he did.

Love The Crusaders...good stuff for sure. Saw them in the 70's too, I believe it was the tour in support of Those Southern Knights.

I friend turned me on to their Chain Reaction album back in the day, and I've been a fan ever since.

is it true that Keith played faster than the human mind can comprehend, or is that just urban legend?

He was like a man possessed. Lucky enough to see him twice.

Brack - good call....I was wondering why no one had posted him yet.....I used to be a HUGE Dream Theater fan (fanboy?) and saw them like 30 times between the mid 90's and the mid '00's.  They are phenomenal musicians and Mr. Portnoy is no exception.  You can clearly see why he won "Best Drummer" from Modern Drummer magazine for several years running.

Here's one of my fav. drumming thingies of Mike's:

On a related note, I just caught the last night of the Transatlantic tour (with MP, Neal Morse of Spock's Beard on keyboards/vox; Roine Stolt from the Flower Kings on guitar/vox; Pete Trewaras from Marillion on bass/vox and special guest Daniel Gildenlow from Pain of Salvation on guitar/keys/percussion/vox.  What a freakin' amazing show.  If you're into old-school prog-rock (think Yes, Genesis, Gentle Giant, ELP, King Crimson), you MUST check these guys out.  They're headed to Europe on a very short tour.

Speaking of Keith Moon, I saw him just once, but wow....was I impressed!  Regarding the Crusaders their eponymous album was Southern Comfort.

'Tis rumoured that the roadies use to place bets to see if Moonie would finish the fill and come back in on time as he became ever more adventurous during the course of a song.
