LOS ANGELES - Bret Michaels is in critical condition suffering from a brain hemorrhage, his publicist said Friday. Joann Mignano confirmed a report on People magazine's website Friday that said the former Poison frontman was rushed to intensive care late Thursday after a severe headache. The report said doctors discovered bleeding at the base of his brain stem.

Mignano said tests are being conducted and that no further information was available.

The 47-year-old reality TV star had an emergency appendectomy last week after complaining of stomach pains. He said on his website that though the surgery "has taken its toll," doctors expected him to make a full recovery.

Michaels starred on the VH1 dating show "Rock of Love" and is a contestant on Donald Trump's NBC reality show, "The Celebrity Apprentice."

Trump said in a statement Friday that he was "deeply saddened" to hear of Michaels' condition.

"He's a great competitor and champion, and I hope he will be fine," Trump said.


I am very saddened to hear this.

He has Juvenile Diabetes and has had to live with giving himself shots everyday and the health problems that come with this. 

I was watching Celebrity Apprentice when he found out his daughter might have Diabetes also.  When she asked him if she would have to take shots like he does, he just brokedown and cried.  He's so concerned that both his kids don't have Juvenile Diabetes and has to go through with what he has to. 

He has been such a trooper and I hope with all my heart he comes through this.  I'm pulling for you Brett every step of the way.

I'm pulling for him too. I have really grown to appreciate him after watching Celebrity Apprentice this season. I never was a big fan of Poison but Brett seems to be a good guy and a loving parent.

Wow, that's a double whammy, with an emergency appendectomy and now this in one week's span.  The emergency appendectomy means it was close to rupture, which is truly very serious itself.  The severity of this hemorrhage may now determine his fate.  Coumadin to blame? The personal toughness could actually work against one.  sad
I don't watch tv, but know the guy, so I hope Bret pulls through.

Just curious....how would personal fortitude work against recovery?  I had an uncle who suffered a ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm (at seventy) and survived.  The guy practically bled out before he got to the hospital and spent six months in ICU.  He told me years later that he woulda whupped St. Peter's backside if they would've taken him.  The day he finally died he ate a full breakfast, went to the bathroom unassisted and pinched his nurse's arse.  Understandably he was my favorite uncle!

Well, I did not mean in the context of recovery, where I would wholeheartedly agree that toughness is indeed a "strong" factor in recovery, example after example proves it out well, Big Jeff being a good example, as well as an example for making my point.  In his case, your uncle's, Bret's case's, etc. being tough can make the timely action needed put onto a short effective time line.  Jeff drove to work and walked in ready to work, Bret's appendix nearly ruptured.  My sister got a blood clot by NOT taking doctor's advice for blood thinning aspirin after minor knee surgery.  Thank goodness she's (this is spoken in LOVE) NOT tough because if she was more like others she would not have made it, it was very, very close as it was.  Bret had a terrible headache, for which he may have not (toughness) or may have taken aspirin for it (ineffectively, so maybe a double dose?) which could have instead effectively sped up his hemorrhage, especially if he had an already prescribed blood thinner from the appendectomy surgery to prevent clotting.  The classic example is ignoring chest pain or misdiagnosing it as indigestion.

Great reply Rocket (Mr. Obvious)!  The other side of the sword so to speak - stubbornness and ignorance.  My uncle was rolling both those dice that morning his stomach blew and I now recall my aunt telling me she wanted to take him to the hospital the day before at the onset of his symtoms.

Gotta wonder if the brain hemorrage might be a result of getting whacked in the head at the Tony awards show. I think Brett was hospitalized right after that mishap. Hopin' for him to recover, Fatherless children have a hard time too.
