I just saw a news release discussing the UK's beginning effort to help it's stranded citizens return home. Talk of flying them into Spain and using Navy or commercial shipping for transport from there. Thousands are stranded all over the world.  sad

Hmm, that was wrong. Ah, found it. It was the prior Iceland Laki event in 1783. A huge one like the Laki eruption would have a devastating effect in Europe and the rest of the world too.

That link to the French Revolution is a very tenuous one, and  open to debate. Always better to deal in facts, not speculation.

My sister is stuck in Majorca and some friends who live in Newport Beach CA are stuck here in England.

My daughter is stuck in Florida, looks like they are trying to fly her to Spain and then on a ship back to the UK. So that will pick her up in Spain if we have to.

Where is your daughter in Florida and how old is she?

My girlfriend works for AstraZeneca and is stuck in Sweeden.  She is fortunate in that her husband was born and raised in Sweeden and still has family there and her company will be footing her bills. 

The feature story of the current National Geographic is Mount St. Helens. It came the day of the Icelanic eruption.  I realize now it was not a mere coincidence, the 30th anniversary is May 18th.

I detest when any company jacks up their prices when people are in need & there is a crisis.   It just seems immoral to me to take advantage of a situation like this.  I'm not saying they have to lose money, just don't overcharge. sad

Just wild about the eruption back in 1783, lakes in Pennsylvania didn't thaw until July or August because of its chilling effect.

+1 on that picture link BBJ. Nature running rampant! That sure puts us on notice as to how little we count in the grand scheme of things. All Europe casts a nervous eye to the west. That cloud of ash has reached almost to North America too.
