Topic: Bugera V-5

Has anyone tried one of these?
5 watt tube amp. One EL84 one 12AX7. Built-in attenuator to take it from 5w to 1w or .1w.

Wonder how it compares to a Class 5 or other comparable loww watt tube amps. Its only $150 at Guitar Center.

Re: Bugera V-5

Just so we are clear, when you read Bugera... it means Behringer. They make 'economy priced' products and usually the quality is not the best. You get what you pay for for sure. But a little 5 watt tube amp? Hey, it'll do the job. I haven't tried it, but you should probably compare it to an Epiphone Valve Jr.

Re: Bugera V-5

Well I have a Bugera V-55 HD that I split with my Carvin MTS 3200. Both tube heads and they sound great together. I was very impressed with the V-55.
I guess I'll see tomorrow when I go try out all the small 5 watt amps.

Re: Bugera V-5

Totally disagree with this stament.  Yes its Behringer but I believe them to be higher quality then their typical products.  I've tried some of their 100 watt heads out and they blow a lot of amps out of the water for high gain tones.  For an Tube amp with that kind of power and tone its better quality then its pricing leads on.  Put one up against a Peavey EVH 1550 I and the bugera smoked it!  It got that liquid sounding distortion much earlier then the 1550 and had more gain on tap.  The 1550 had to be cranked to sound good and that sucks where the hell are you going to crank up a 100 watt head to that volume without the cops showing up?  Answer is no where in town where the freaking gigs are at.  The V5 has a lot of other features too btw such as direct out so it makes it perfect for people that play in a church setting that need to mic up.  I have no experience with this amp and couldn't tell you a thing about it but I will say this you really should try things out before you start knocking on them, and I serisously think a lot of the people on this board  have a case of being gear snobs.  Just because its affordable doesn't mean it suck.  Thats all I'm saying.  I say go for it!  The epiphone valve jr does suck and I used to own one.

No doubt the sound is all that matters- that said, the Bugera amps get slammed alot for various things from poor build quality to saccharin tone to poor customer service etc..

Let the buyer be where?

Re: Bugera V-5

Well I tried the fender champ. Didn't like it at all.
The class 5 rocked!
They didn't have the bugera v5 so I ordered one since they have a 30 day money back guarantee.
I'll post a review when it comes in. Hopefully by the end of the week.

Re: Bugera V-5

Thanks Sarge, appreciate the comment. I guess a lot of other people like it too, they keep trying to get me to go into production on them, got about 6 people on the waiting list already LOL!!!!!!
Seriously though, the Bugera isn't a bad little unit but there are better ones out there. Ibanez just released a "Lunchbox" amp and it sounds nice (mine sounds nicer though  tongue )
As far as Behringer's other products it is kinda "hit-and-miss" as far as quality control. I have a compressor pedal by them that is fantastic, but I have tossed away a reverb pedal and a delay pedal by them.
If you really want a low wattage tube amp there are better choices than the Bugera. If I didn't build my own I would be looking long and hard at the Blackheart offerings. Lots of bang for the buck there, but seeing as I do build them I will just build myself a little 5 watt "Plexi" for recording.  big_smile

Re: Bugera V-5

The 5 watt Plexi sounds interesting. I'd definitely be interested in that for the jamming in the house.

And I would like to second that... I own the 3 low wattage amps of the Blackheart line, and they are very serious gear for the money. The 15 watt head is pretty much a Marshall 2061x with more EQ possibilities and a master volume for about 350$. Plug it into any cab you have and enjoy the ride. It's even loud enough for live use.

Re: Bugera V-5

Well it showed up this morning.
I'm very happy with it. I plugged in my JBLP and this thing sounds great clean or dirty.
The attenuator worked perfectly and on the .1 watt it's nice and quiet so I won't wake the wife and baby up when I get home from work at 2am and want to practice. No tone loss what so ever.
I still need to see how it sounds with the '62 Strat yet. Hopefully tonight.

So overall with the $50 eCertificate from Guitar Center the amp cost me $109 shipped. Great deal IMHO. I truly recommend people trying this amp before they trash talk it.

I'll try to post some sound clips on you tube by next week.
