Topic: The old OD question.....

One of the most asked q's I have seen on this part of the forum is about a subtle OD in front of a Marshall/Marshall style amp.

I was messing about today, and realised that my Cornish SS3 really nails this. I was running from my LP into a Cornell Plexi and Tweed 57 Twin and it sounded heavenly. Like THE TONE I have always been after.

I know the SS3 is not the same price as an OCD, TS9 or whatever, but jeepers it NAILS the tone we all look for. Amazing.

If you really want that cranked plexi tone, go for it and check one out.

Really enjoyed this today.

Re: The old OD question.....

I havent had a chance to try one of these but at £376 I would need to be really impressed to buy one. the most I spent on an OD was £200(I sold a ts9 and carl martin HB+B to fund it) for the Providence SOV-2 which is such a transparent sounding OD that really lets the amp shine through but gives you extra bite and grit if you need it and also has a nice midrange articulation that works well going through 2 amps similtaneously .

There are so many great OD units out there now  big_smile  just find one that gets the tone you want  cool

As a cheapy, I love the Fulltone FB....I kind of prefer it to the OCD. I've never tried a Timmy although everyone says they're the mutts nuts.

I paid less than that as mine is in a duplex with a G2 distortion and that means it's about £300 each. It's a good unit.

One thing about the Cornish- it will survive a substantial thermo-nuclear encounter.
