Topic: Joe in Tokyo (April 7, 2010)

Just saw Joe at the Liquid Room in Ebisu, Tokyo, Japan. Fantastic show. It was really a "best of" as he played all of his greatest stuff. Including a few from Black Rock. Some pics below. Joe broke a string (while soloing So Many Roads) and kept right on playing. Sounded great! Fabulous show.

Didn't recognize the guitar shown below. Anyone know what it is? Used for "Bird On A Wire."

Joe - they really love you here. I saw your Tokyo show last September and in the intervening months, I've heard a lot of buzz about you and your fantastic playing. Keep coming back.  smile

Nice photos Jim! It sounds like you had a great show.  That new guitar is one I've never seen. I will post a link to here on the gear section to see if any of the guys over there know.
Thanks, Rick

Is it the one they gave him in Australia?

Re: Joe in Tokyo (April 7, 2010)

The Tele shaped guitar wasn't a Gigliotti, it was actually a custom Tele by a Sydney luthier by the name of John Comacchio, John let me play the guitar briefly before he presented it to Joe it is a beauty and will be featured on my site soon. After the show we were backstage and Joe called the Tele "Ace"

(Found this post, this one?)

No that isn't the one he used for Bird On A Wire in Australia. I have some photos from the Melbourne show I will try and put up later that show it - they are not great shots but you will get an idea.

I don't think so Patty, maybe. Here's the link and a picture. http://www.guitarnoize.com/blog/comment … -31-03-10/ Jon's review and description doesn't really say the pictured guitar is the one that was given to Joe. The pick guards are very different.

Re: Joe in Tokyo (April 7, 2010)

I think that guitar was given to Joe just after the afternoon soundcheck, before the show. I was hanging around chatting to Dave (Joe's guitar guy) and I think I heard somebody say that a local Japanese had built the guitar and had just shown it to Joe, who was back stage checking it out. It might even have been Dave who said that, but as my mind was completely blown away by the gig I can't remember clearly! ha, ha

You never know what's going to happen.....

Re: Joe in Tokyo (April 7, 2010)

Thanks for the nice & clear pitcures.  In the 3rd picture, that's me in the white shirt!

Regarding that guitar, I'm sure you can read "Blues" on the head.  I could clearly read "T-Bone" on the bottom of the body too.
I was at the soundcheck too as it was open to the limited number of guests.  When he played Bird On A Wire, he played a different guitar, possibly Telecaster?  So, that new guitar may be given to him after the soundcheck.
I hope it helps someone identify the guitar.

Re: Joe in Tokyo (April 7, 2010)

The answer is the guitar is the new one you describe. According to Road Show.

Re: Joe in Tokyo (April 7, 2010)

I see Joe didn't have his usual rig set-up there...only two heads....anyone know what heads he used at this show?

2009 Gibson Les Paul 1958 VOS (with black plastic)
2008 Gibson Les Paul Traditional Goldtop (with the cream plastic from the 58RI)
> Marshall Bluesbreaker 2 pedal >Boss sd-1> DD3 > Vox Ac15cc1

Check the picture by Roadshow on the Gear thread. Beautiful blue with gold hardware.
