Topic: Eric Steckler...a phenomenal teenage blues machine!

haha....just realised I mispelled his name in the thread title, can't seem to change it. It should read "Eric Steckel" not Eric Steckler.

Just discovered this guy yesterday and hes only 16. Really mature playing with a tone die for! Hes also got a really good voice for someone of his age. So far the youngest person to play with John Mayall. Hes got Derek Truck's brother on drums.

Check him out: http://www.ericsteckel.com Theres some live videos to download on there as well! Including some of his tour with John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers when he was only 14.

heres a live mp3 of him covering "The Ghetto" http://www.ericsteckel.com/mp3/the_ghetto.mp3

Hi Jess,

Awesome talent!! I saw Eric in a little club called Havana in New Hope, Pennsylvania (outside of Philadelphia) when he was about 12 or 13, before he did that European tour with Mayall. He was living in Pennsylvania at the time, had a bass player and a drummer (at least 4 times his age) and we heard about him in a special news segment. He had a really young speaking voice when we saw him and I remember him mentioning his influences as all the Kings. Nice kid with super nice parents!!

Saw him last year at Ft. Lauderdale Blues Fest. His drummer was Duane(sp) Trucks, Dereks younger brother. He was amazing and a really cool kid!

Well worth the listen... thanks for the link

Music is good for the Soul...

Re: Eric Steckler...a phenomenal teenage blues machine!

I'm surprised he doesn't have a Myspace site. At least I couldn't find one.

Re: Eric Steckler...a phenomenal teenage blues machine!

Very good. He's got a great sense of melody. He lets the song come to him and rides it. Thanks!

Angela, Erik is going to be a the Havana Club again 4/14 and 4/15. For anyone in the Md, Pa, NJ or Del area, a friend of mine has a site, Full Moon Blues, that lists what's happening in the area. She is a huge Sonny Landreth fan and there is a large photo gallery of Sonny and Jazz Fest......

Re: Eric Steckler...a phenomenal teenage blues machine!

Thanks Cathy for the heads up on Eric S. smile New Hope, Pa. is a very cool town for anyone not familiar with it. I went to that Full Moon site real briefly and read that Jon Cleary, Bonnie Raitt's keyboardist, has a new album coming out with Jimmy Page making a guest appearance.
