Topic: My new rig- finished!

Well almost- I have got a flight case on order for the pedal board as it's a tad heavy.

Sounds fabulous. I've got unity gain from the guitar to the output- something I've worked to get for ages.

Loving my Skrydstrupt delay too.....

Anyway- enjoy the pix.

Yeesh...you're a very rich man!

Excellent board. Another man with the turbo-tuner....can't believe I went all these years with a TU-2 - now this is my only 'essential' pedal.
I'm guessing that delay was over the half a k mark?

Also I very much like the transparent red of the Blade...bet that sounds pretty cool. Though, of course, I'd go for the black one...

I was thinking Cornell...how goes it?

Dave- Turbo tuner is very cool- so easy to read.

Plexi - YES YES YES. Great great sound. I swapped my Fender Tweed 57 twin for a Cornell ROmany - but I went and 'reversed' the deal this morning- the Cornell Tweeds are so so, the Plexi's are AWESOME. And, as tweeds go, the Twin is still my fave amp ever. DO NOT be fooled by the fact the Plexi is 18w. It's deafening. Like a 50w Marshall.

DDL- £650 second hand. But really, really good. I've put the TC PCF Chorus AFTER it to fatten the tone. It really does work. Deadly silent too.

Blade- hahaha- you've hit on my desert island guitar there. I love that machine. It's one of the early hand built ones and has DG20 EMG's in it.

Rich- no I have a choreography business! Not much money in dance- although we've just 'won' supplying the dancers for Madonna's latest effort. I shall not publically comment on how someone so tone deaf as made so much money...........

Re: My new rig- finished!

Sounds good....very good.

I'm going to have to sell my Zinky Mofo - it is just 'too much' - I just can't get used to it's voicing...It's a Tonemaster-like circuit and thought it would go well with my Orange, but I'm looking for something else - Cornell looks good. I'm on the dark side.  cool

What are we looking at for a combo? I'll have about £800-900 spare...for something to go with my Orange...and maybe a pedal to go with?

Dave- there's a Cornell Head going for £600 on eBay. Same as mine but a prototype. I paid £850 for mine on eBay - they are £1375 new- worth every penny. I will give you a heads up that Chandlers have a Silver Jubilee  25/50w 1 x 12 going for around £700.

Pedal- get a Kingsley Jester ($375 + shipping and duty) or a simple TS808.

Re: My new rig- finished!

another EX-7 user. how do you get on with it? i recently got one for my covers band.

i tend not to use many effects, but needed something that did a bit of everything without having a full on multi fx unit. i was quite pleased with the wah settings when i gigged last night, though i miss my old crybaby.

Fender 60's Strat>Fulltone OCD V4>>TC Electronics Polytune>Orange Dual Terror>Torres 2x10 Cab(with a vintage 30 and a greenback)

I only just got it- it's a fun thing and packs so many options into one pedal. I like all of it but the flanger which is awful. I bought it mainly for the whammy, which is better than all of 'em save for the original one and also the IPS 33B rack unit. The Space Synth thing is fab! Dunno when or where I'd ever use it though.

Re keeping fx off the signal path, this is a very complex routing system which only passes the signal through the pedals I want to use, and has Cornish buffers everywhere to smooth out the gain and to keep it 'at unity'. It is NOT a true bypass system- it's a hybrid of true bypass on old noisy pedals and unity gain on the boutique pedals. Pete Cornish spent hours advising me about how to do it and doing the buffers and cables. Lovely man.

Re: My new rig- finished!

Yeah I use it all. I haven't really used the EX7 much- it's my one indulgence pedal- packs so much into one little gizmo I couldn't resist.

And actually, the whole set up is very simple to use.

Set the core sound (delay and mods) then use the drives and fuzzes manually.

Typically for Joe- say Sloe Gin?

Rhythm parts- Compulator, SS3, EQ (bass boost), DDL (c. 370ms 2 repeats), TC pitch Mod

Lead- Add Tube Driver or G2 to taste.

Gilmour Comf Numb 2nd solo-

Compulator
Dynacomp
Rams Head Muff or P2 depending on my mood
BK Tube Driver
TC EQ
MXR on 440ms
DDL on a very subtle tape echo reverby setting, one repeat
TC PCF on deep pitch mod

It pretty much absolutely nails the tone- but I don't have the fingers sadly.
(note- if I were playing the Wall era, add Elec Miss, if I were playing PULSE era, maybe the CE2).

I notice here for comfartably numb solo you are using 2 compressors why 2 and what effect doe it have on your lead tone .
I have toyed with getting a compressor but dont want to end up getting one that sucks your tone ??

Unbelieveable rig man. You like your Cornish stuff!

Please let me know your thoughts on the Cornell Plexi's. I have just bought a Ceriatone OTS and am very happy but require a small amp for teaching, quiet gigs on the fly etc... I was thinking of a Plexi 7. Was just wondering if you had played one, or if they sounded small and Box like? Can't find a decent video on YouTube! And don't fancy going down the Fender style sound (princeton RI) when I already have the Ceriatone which is like a Dumble (which is like a Fender Twin on acid)!!!!!!!
I have about £600 quid to spend and would like to spend my pounds and support a UK company.

Guitars: 95 Les Paul Standard, Relic Strat,
Amps: 1973 Marshall JMP 50 head and Vintage Modern Cab. I use no effects other than a Cry Baby on occasions.

OK- I love the Plexi- but even the 18/20 is hugely loud and powerful- be warned. It is everything I'd ever wanted in a British amp- Marshalls have never been me really- the only one I had that I ever kept was the 30th Anni. It's beautifully made, Dennis is so helpful too- he even sent me some tolex to cover my amp stand! (Never got round to it). Sounds- total vintage Plexi. If you wanted tone refs it's somewhere between an original plexi with a hint of JCM800. He'll tell you about how important IMPROVING designs are, not being totally slave like to the originals.

Plexi 7- lovely and not too boxy. Prefer the 18/20 just for ooomph, and I run the amp just at breakup point, not at saturation, so the extra headroom of the 18/20 works for me. The sustain on it obviously was stolen from Nigel Tufnell. And as a chord decays, it sparkles like a real Plexi, which is always the bit I never found in any other amp.

If I'm looking for instant JB, I run a LP into Cornish SS3 with the Skryd delay and that pretty much gives you a sort of Sloe Gin sound. (i'd add that IMO people who look for Joe's tone spend too much time thinking about reverb and not enough on delay.)

I don't love the Cornell Tweeds as much. They are good, but my Custom Shop Twin 57 blows the Romany's away. I actually bought one of the Cornell Romany 2 x 12's and indeed went and swapped it back for my Twin.(I'd p-exd it)

If I gave my Twin a 10 on the basis it's my fave amp ever, the Plexi would be a 9.5! Get one.

Well, I think that is due to the fact that Joe's basic recipe for delay is such a simple one.  Just an easily available, non boutique digital delay (Boss DD-3) through the effects loop his his Jubilee.  Even Joe is a self professed reverb junkie.  He's had the Diaz reverb tank, Fender reverb tanks when they worked), Boss RV5 reverb, Boss DD3's set for both delay and a slapback/bathtub sound, TC 2290, etc.  That's a whole LOT of reverb and delay!  I think you do have a point however and I'll even throw another twist to it:  I think that people also get hung up on the reverb AND delay too much.  One of Joe's 3 tones is pretty much completely dry.  If you listen to his albums they are much more dry sounding than his live tone.  The guy doesn't need the reverb or delay to sound good, though live it especially helps if the room is dead sounding.  I think that's why you see so much echo/reverb in his live rig.
