Topic: If you had to choose reverb vs delay...

Some of us are stuck with amps w/o effects loops and want to simplify and get the best out of the gear.  Would you choose reverb or delay.  I know I hate spring reverb and prefer a plate type reverb... any pedals out there for that?

Re: If you had to choose reverb vs delay...

The boss reverb pedal is pretty good. However, it's better to have a rack, at least for me.

I would choose reverb. it's perfect to play some Peter Green/Gary Moore stuff.

Re: If you had to choose reverb vs delay...

I can (and have/do) live without any reverb at all.

Decent delay can be made into a make-shift reverb (eg TRex 'brown' button), reverb cannot do delay.

Re: If you had to choose reverb vs delay...

Yeah, I know opinions will differ on this one... I have not used any reverb in ages, but suddenly dug my EH Holy Grail out of its sleeping coffin and keep wondering if it belongs on the board.  I am trying to really simplify things as much as humanly possible nowadays.  Anyhow, thanks guys, guess the best solution is to try each one.  Should know better and answer my own questions  tongue

I love reverb. If I could only have one, it would be reverb.

Re: If you had to choose reverb vs delay...

I use a Digitech Hardwire Stereo Reverb pedal and a Keeley Modified Boss DD-3 Delay.  I use both pedals out front as my old Fender heads don't have effects loops.  I set the reverb pedal on the "plate" setting and the Keeley pedal on the first cut setting.  Both pedals sound very good. But, if I had to choose one, it would be the delay.  Unfortunately, I feel a little "naked" without a touch of delay on leads.

Re: If you had to choose reverb vs delay...

I prefer Delay. Actually, a little Echo is what I really like. Reverb can make things a little muddy at volume. Plus, there's usually actual Reverb from the room.
