Topic: Just seen on Twitter - RIP Joe's #52 LP :(

Joe on Twitter - "Rest in Peace # 52 Gibson JB Goldtop. Delta Airlines did a number on it.. Thats two albert hall guitars in less than a year. Im gutted."

Looks like Joe's #52 Les Paul has been damaged in transit by Delta Airlines. I hope it can be repaired to play another day.  sad

Re: Just seen on Twitter - RIP Joe's #52 LP :(

Hopefully Joe will soon be done with Airline travel and buy a share at Netjets.  Problem solved.....

Re: Just seen on Twitter - RIP Joe's #52 LP :(

Re: Just seen on Twitter - RIP Joe's #52 LP :(

Wasn't that his favorite?  I was thinking he had one with cream plastic and that it somehow was his favorite... was it that one?  It stands out as my favorite of his signature line.  Maybe Gibson will go ahead and build a new batch of 200 to replace #52, I know its not the same but it would be cool.

Re: Just seen on Twitter - RIP Joe's #52 LP :(

I'm wondering if insurance covers that?

That's one drawback on Gibsons is that they are harder to "fix" than Fenders or other bolt-together instruments.  sad

Ask me about my handwound Great Lakes Guitar Pickups
Since 2010, Bonamassa fans have taken advantage of my JB friend discount = my cost + shipping. cool

Re: Just seen on Twitter - RIP Joe's #52 LP :(

What a bummer. I would totally sue Delta's ****.

Joe, how on earth are they doing this, assuming all the guits are in flight cases?

"Who wants an orange whip? Orange whip? Orange whip? Three orange whips...."

JB LP Goldtop No. 290- Aged...rather like me.

Re: Just seen on Twitter - RIP Joe's #52 LP :(

Gorillas work in airline baggage handling...seen it in a commercial once so it must be true.

What a terrible thing to have happen, I can't imagine.

Where the hell does one get a black-backed gold top anyway?

Yep, #52 was the one with the cream plastic.  sad

Re: Just seen on Twitter - RIP Joe's #52 LP :(

Just goes to show the case is only really there to stop dents and scratches. If the case is dropped, the head can snap off. It's a nightmare!
Especially bad with thin necks and heavy string gauges.

It's my biggest fear to have the headstock snap off my LP.

Ugh, R.I.P...

Joe, here's to hoping you get a private jet for yourself so that *doesn't* happen one of these days. Hell, that might actually be an investment that has a good return of profit.  How many times have the crappy airlines done this now? roll Think how much a guitar played by a fairly famous artist is worth, compared to the price of a private jet wink

Re: Just seen on Twitter - RIP Joe's #52 LP :(

You know something, it should literally be a crime. An airline ruins a valuable piece of your property and what is it going to cost them? What they or thier insurance company say its worth? Thats bullshit. Some things just can't be replaced. These unfortunate events will continue to occur as long as there is no real penalty to the airline.

    So sorry Joe.....

That must be one of the worst feelings in the world knowing that it will never be "new" again. I would be quite scared to put my guitars under a plane.

Sorry to hear about that Joe.  sad

Thats a shame and Im very sorry to hear this Joe. Unfortunately not surprising I could fill this forum about my experience's with Delta. Suffice it to say I dislike them with the white hot intensity of ten thousand burning suns! Thats putting it as mildly  mad

Really am sad now.  When I saw him last it was my favorite of the night.  I forgot what songs he used it on but If he loved the guitar half as much as his fans I'm sure he was heart broken... He reffered to these as his childeren.  All 200.  Maybe Joe can buy one from someone on here.

Actually, I've read luthiers from other forums that have said that this is one of the easiest repairs to do, and although guitarists freak out about it, that it's really no big deal.

200!!?  In Eugene, Joe was almost confiding in us of almost having a guitar problem...Junkie to junkie, it was awesome...He said it was now over 300 and told us of the e-bay bidding war for the recently acquired red 355. I was actually patting him on the back slightly, letting him know that might not be too bad of a problem to have   and not to worry, everything's gonna be ok. I forgot to ask Dave if he's got to toy or play w/ all of them yet, in the 4 years he's been w/ Joe. I'm really sad for Joe's loss and can feel his pain and sorrow (sorry, I could'nt help it) Dave Meniketti of Y&T had a really bad United Airlines incident that was'nt very pretty.
