Topic: From dirt track to super highway

...is a perfect analogy for the earth-shattering transformation finally visited on Cathy yesterday!  cool

Readers may recall that Cathy has always been 'connection-challenged', to the extent that she was unable to youtube like us regular folks, or even to download email attachments bigger than around 200k. She couldn't install Skype because her connection timed her out trying to download 30 Mb or so.

NO MORE!!!!

Since yesterday, when Verizon at the third time of asking finally hooked her up to FIOS, Cathy can talk to me on webcam, download attachments of 4.5 Mb (so far, testing continues) AND browse the forum AND have other sites open all at the same time!!  lol   cool

Try and remember what a buzz it was when you first upgraded from dial-up!  wink

Now we will have a flood of her input. I experienced that when I was on the road trip. Recollections of bad dial up came flooding back. 10 minutes to refresh hotmail, when it didn't lock up at the last 10%. Welcome to the speedway Cathy.  smile

Re: From dirt track to super highway

Don't worry Rick. I still can't stand to spend much time in cyberworld. It's annoying to me. Maybe if I didn't have to use one for my job?? better yet when they are voice activated and eye piece flip screened, thus mobile, I'll be a fan.
The journey to FIOS has been rocky. The original date for install was at the start of the month. Verizon swore they'd be here despite the 6-8 inches of snow and all lines being underground. So, you know how that goes. Stay home from work, wait and try to believe. A phone call after the deadline revealed the date had to be changed. At this point all negotiations where handled by my roomie since he's footing the bill. So, a new date was set and a year long monthly discount was given along with "heartfelt" apologies.
Fast forward to new date...then re-read prior paragraph..add new monthly discounts for the next year...apologies..yada, yada, yada. Great! Now we get a discount on a service we haven't recieved, and we've each missed 2 days of work. So, the next date was set for yesterday. And, the presence of Central Americans with shovels along my drive and across the front yard on Friday gave me hope!  Come on 8-10a.m.!!
I should back up to Weds. p.m. when my roomie called to check the status of the install. The machine said Monday!!! He straightened that out! (It wasn't pretty)
So, no show 8-10...new time set 1-2:30. Now they say it could take 6-8 hrs, so....when they finally came at 4pm, I knew what my night would be.
In the end it's a wonderful thing. I just think the irony that a huge communications company fails so badly in communicating. The good news, we have a double monthly discount, a second recorder free, and more options then I'll ever figure out.
George..you'll get to play with it soon!            Cathy

Cathy, for the ordeal and BS they put you through, they should be paying you for the privilege of letting them on your property. Finally up to speed and refusing to use it.  roll  Just like a certain woman I know.  wink

Looks like you can´t stop technological progress...maybe except in the small German village I live. To watch videos I still have to take my laptop somewhere else.
