Topic: JCM800 Clone/rip off/blessing

So I am the proud owner of what I thought was a 1990 JCM800 with kt88’s. It is mint as mint could be it looks like it is a new reissue that is how new it is. Upon opening the amp I saw a Mercury transformer and Mercury choke and replaced filter caps by JJ. Then when we opened the amp to look further we discovered a completely different amp. The entire amp is point to point hand wired, all 100% replaced with high end resistors pots and capacitors. </p>

So I’m feeling a bit crappy about this, I wanted an JCM800; however should I be excited for a 100% upgraded hand wired Marshall with some of the best parts available? There are literally no marshall parts from what I can see/notice. Only the head case and chassis and knobs and jacks are original everything else not Marshall. It does have a serial number and model number sticker on the Chassis though.

Thoughts and advice? Should I call my buddy on this? I paid $825 for it with a good quality tuki head cover.

How does it sound? That's the bottom line. If you like it, be glad. If you don't, try to get your money back.

Re: JCM800 Clone/rip off/blessing

If you like the sound I'd say you scored.  If you ever want to sell it you will have to be more honest than the guy who sold it to you.  This could be a tough amp to sell down the road.  Tough one.

You'd have an easier time selling a stock jcm800 than what you have.  Too bad they weren't honest with you to begin with.

MM tranny and choke, top notch components, and all handwired. This can't be such a bad thing.
