Topic: I want to sell my Les Paul.

Ok I'm wanting to put my Les Paul Classic on Ebay.  It a 2002 honey burst.  Its been used and I've done a lot of work that will devalue it I'm afaid, but I was wondering what you guys thought I should ask for this thing or see what you all thought it was worth.  I reliced it...  I have replaced the tuner Grovers and the bridge is a tone pros bridge.  I replaced the tailpiece with a Bigsby,  sadly while I installed it one of the screws heads broke off and I tried to get the screw out of the maple top.  So it left it with a pretty nasty big hole in the top of the guitar thats covered by the bigsby but if you ever decided to remove it would look ugly.  The pickups are 57' Classics and I have a RS guitarworks electronics kit in it.  I paid $1500 when I bought it new.  the Bigsby was $120 and the tone pros was $50.  I pulled the pickups from another guitar and the RS Guitarworks kit was $60.  So I have around $1700 invested in it.  Do you think I can get $800 out of it?  I decided I would like a Telecaster better and I want a new Fuzz pedal as well.  So I'm shooting for at least $800 due to the fact I reliced it.  Any input would be great.  Thanks!

The basic answer is YES- it's still a Gibbo.

Yes I did try an easyout but the screw broke under the surface and had to be drilled out.  If I knew I was going to sell it back when it happened I would have taken better care not to have undersized the drill bit in the first place.  One of those life lessons of thats why it pays to have a professional do the job right the first time.

I'd like to see it if you toss it up on ebay, give me a link. Otherwise if you email me some pics, and are willing to let it go for $800 I can think long and hard about it. Classic with a 60's neck? is it on the slimmer side?

$800 is a very fair price (especially with the extras), if I was in the market I would buy from you.

I made a demo I'm uploading now that I'm attaching to the sale.  bare in mind $800 was going to be my starting price no reserve.  If it doesn't go past $800 I'll be happy to part with it, but I'm hoping for more.  Plain top, slim 60's neck slimer then a 60's neck on a standard.  My biggest issue with it which I tried my best to take pictures of is that hole in the top.  you really cant see it with the bigsby and I'm not risking removing it just to show how bad I messed it up.  I'll post the ebay link after I got it up.

I don't smoke and NC is smoke free in Bars now.  I just started gigging this past year.  Our singer does smoke but everyone else in our band doesn't.  He smokes outside.  So yes smoke free home and gigs.  Beer free??? afraid not I have spilled a drop on it at least once.  The arm wear is fake as is the pick mark between the pickups.  It started out that my hand would get stuck on the necks gloss finish when I would sweat.  So I scotch brite the back of the neck really light to make it a satin finish.  When I was done I liked the look so much better I had a crazy idea that it would look better under lights without the glossy finish reflecting on it.  So I took the whole guitar apart aged the metal screws and lightly removed almost all the clear coat.  I was going to go back with a buffing wheel to get a dull shine back but never got around to it.  BTW Coors isn't my beer of choice Guinness is what I'm drinking.

Well its over.  I sold it on ebay for $1034, plus $100 shipping.  A nice man from France won it and paid faster then anybody I've sold to lately.  He wants me to send it USPS and declair its a used guitar not a used gibson guitar.  Also I am to value it at $172.  Is this legal?  Hope because I already agreed to his terms.

Haha -- he just wants to avoid the taxman  smile . Everywhere in Europe you'll have to pay import tax and VAT, even for second-hand stuff you buy on ebay. Customs work out the tax you have to pay based on the value declared on the parcel, so the lower that is the less tax he'll have to pay. It may even go through tax-free if it's below a certain amout, e.g. $172.00  lol
The only thing you should be careful with and tell the buyer is that the amount declared is the amount the guitar is insured for. In case it gets lost, he'll get exactly $172.00 and not a penny more. Tell him that and make sure he agrees.

Oh he knows that was something else he brought up.  I wish him the best of luck but if someting does happen he's getting no help from me.  I've already got his money spent.  I had to get a new computer yesterday (cheap netbook which I love better then my 4 year old $800 Dell that always had problems!) a new Way Huge Swollen Pickle, and a Baja Telecaster!  All just above what I made on the sale!  If I knew the computers hard drive was going to crash when I placed the bids on the guitar, and pedal I would have reconsidered the pedal... not the guitar.
