Topic: EV12L: Which amp?

Choices, choices... roll

I've finally ordered a EV12L and will put it in my 2x12 cab. I will probably replace the Celestion Heritage G12M and run it together with a Celestion G12-65. The Greenback will by the way probably end up in a 1x12 cab with this baby (a 2-watter built by Jeff Bober from Budda):

I'm looking forward to hearing the EV12L and deciding whether to put it in front of the Ceriatone 2550 (Silver jub.) or the Ceriatone OTS HRM (Dumble).
What would you chose and why?

Re: EV12L: Which amp?

From here i would tend to Run the 2550 with the EV12L
and the HRM with the G12-65.
I use EVs for both of my amps and the 2550 sounds
amazing with the EVs. In the ceriatone forum people
seem to love G12-65 for the HRM.

I'd try both amps with both speakers and let
the ears decide what sounds better.

Good luck
Alex

Yes I saw that on the ceriatoneforum as well, and it probably makes sense as I'm expecting the 12-65 to be a little bit warmer and more smoothe tha the EV12L. Allways fun to have other peoples opinion, but offcourse it's all down to your ears in the end.

I agree with Alex jubilee sounds far more articulate with EVM12L then again so does dumble clone. if g12-65 does not work to your liking then buy another EVM12L
I would be interested to find how you compare the g12-65 and EVM12L, with your dumble clone and what you prefer ??

Yeah, I'll report as soon as the bloody order is moving over at Audio Depot Madison. Hope I didn't bet on the wrong horse ordering from them... Has been three weeks now and still not shipped.

Well, finally the EV12L has arrived and has gotten some 50 hours of break in. Even though it is probably still not fully broken in, it sounds fantastic. Especially with a fairly overdriven 2550! full control at any volume and articulate all the way up to painfull levels. Defenatly the best element I've tried for Marshall kind of sound.
I still prefer the G12-65 for the Dumble clone though. A little bit warmer and smoother and breaks up nicely for that semi-clean tone. For clean tones, the EV12L can be almost sterile and too controlled.

Re: EV12L: Which amp?

I waited for this reply but impatience got the better of me so  I snagged a g12-65 off ebay . the g12 65 is good for the Dumble clone amps but has a sound of its own . THEN upcame a EVM12S on ebay for £50 a steal for me so now the comparison begins and what I found is that when blending both a jubilee and dumble clone it helps if both speakers are EVMS as they help the amps to melt together better as the speaker dynamics and articulation are the same so now my speaker search is over for now. 1 cab has the 2 EVM 12s in them (my gigging cab) and my other 2x12 has g12-65 and marshall greenback which I keep for bigger gigswhere I need 2cabs but the EVM cab wins hands down every time.
