Score 1 for the Pac 10. I'm worried about Cal's chances after having to suspend one of their starting 5. I did hear Louisville's play by play announcer describe them as erratic, we'll see how it shakes down today.

They definitely got the Vols attention. That game was much closer than expected IMO.

jdawg,

The way my Cats have been playing, I won't be shocked if the Saints come marching in...and it pains me to say that, there's always hope if the Wildcats get it together.  I can't tell you how many times things are the opposite, they struggle w/ a team they should beat, and beat a team that was a stretch!  Sports Illustrated's bracket has 'Nova getting beat by St. Mary's, but then you have the Pres. putting them in the final four, which could be a little political payback for 'Nova being so very gracious to his belle, Michelle during the campaign.  Coach Wright punished #1 Scottie yesterday, kept him from the starting lineup for not being prepared, I'm not sure if that had anything to do with the team being off yesterday, since they have been off for a little bit now...maybe they all were out celebrating St. Patrick's Day... big_smile   Yeah, and I knew it was regular Ohio, not State.  Georgetown can be so pompous...must be a Washington thing...   hmm   One of the brackets in my house has West Virginia going all the way, I never finished my bracket. Who do you have going all the way?

I think you'll be fine. Amoke only averaged 4.8 points per game. You might miss his presence on the boards, but I think that will be made up for in the team rallying, and feeling like their backs are against the wall now. But Pitino's a great coach...it's going to be a real test for sure. Good Luck J Dawg!

Re: March Madness getting close!!!

Yeah, good luck JDawg. Gotta hang with the west coast. My dog put up a fight but no 3 point shooters bit in the end. I see Kansas all the way.

Haven't even looked at a bracket, let alone filled one out to wager on this year. To be honest I'm enjoying the tourney more this way instead of being frustrated every time a pick goes wrong. WVU is a sentimental favorite since my Dad was an alumni. Other than that I would like to see Cal & Ohio St. advance as far as they can.

Score another one for the Pac 10. Your vote of confidence rang true Stu, the Bears put a smack down on Pitino's crew. The 12-0/22-4 start was amazing and when the Cards came within 4 in the second period I thought Cal had shot its wad too soon only to put the pedal to the metal and seal the deal. Pitino was obviously frustrated getting a technical late in the game. The Bears reward..........Duke, now there's an upset if it were to happen.

Jakey, if rugby is your "thing" check out the history of the University Of California Golden Bears NCAA rugby teams. A true dynasty.

Well, start a thread jakey and see how many bites you get. We have a local core of US Rugby talent here in San Diego. Our national team has become better each year and are competitive in 7 man. Still a long way to go though against the likes of the S.A., N.Z.  and Euro powers.

Re: March Madness getting close!!!

Rick- yeah, I know the US are really embracing rugby at collegiate level. I believe Dan Lyle, the former Eagles and Bath 8 is very much the man responsible for implementing the structures and promoting the game- good to see.

You're getting quite a lot of interest in the game?

You've def got one world class player at the moment- the back rower Todd Cleaver....quality player- would get into a lot of international sides. I think if ever America takes the sport seriously, you'd be a real power very quickly with all the athletic ability available to you- and it's a fact that rugby players are now just about the fittest all round athletes in any sport.

Half time in the Ireland/Scotland game- it's a belter- Scots leading 11-7- which is a bit surprising.

I think I'll have to wait until next year for a rugby thread now!

Re: March Madness getting close!!!

Jakey, the Cal rugby dynasty......24 National Championships in the past 30 years. It's a shocker when they don't win it all. Sadly they receive little notice in the media. College athletics is all about football and mens & womens basketball as far as the media is concerned.

Re: March Madness getting close!!!

Sorry Angela, but the Gaels prevailed. I missed the game due to work obligations this morning. St. Mary's forsake their fabled football program to focus more on their basketball team and title IX sports teams in 2004. It was a very controversial decision, but moving to the 3rd round just might ease some of the alumni's pain.

Re: March Madness getting close!!!

jdawg- I thought I'd find a post from you.   wink  Now that its over, I wish St. Mary's well, some of the stuff I read thought they wouldn't get past Richmond.  It seems that they missed a bid to the dance last year.  It was a good game, fair officiating, lots of tying it up, exciting 3 point shots, they kept 'Nova on the run the whole game...but the 3 point shot right at the end from St. Mary's was the nail in the coffin, so to speak. I think St. Mary's has 2 players from Australia, the really big guy has great foot work.  "Nova needed Scottie Reynolds to show his stuff, in order to win that game.  I was glad that Villanova looked better than the first game, but they didn't get it done.  And so until next year...   smile

Then I caught the last 5 minutes of Murray State...they almost upset Butler...2 point game.  March Madness is the best.

I can't believe how Kansas is getting a run for their money...

Kansas got a run for their money alright, I like to see the regulars bow out. Now you see why I steered away from the bracket racket this year.

Re: March Madness getting close!!!

Kansas was like the UNC favored of last year, what an upset, but I have to say, after I caught some of the game Friday before the half between Kansas and 16 seed Lehigh, I knew Kansas could be beat.  Let's just say, Vegas took a hit on Kansas losing!

And St. Mary's is intrigued with the land down under...they have 5 players from Australia.  One of my hubby's old fraternity brothers is the voice of Villanova radio, he said there was an aura of confidence amongst the Gaels, they had the Cats totally figured out.  (based on whatever stuff was going down before the game)

After Patty Mills panned out so well, only to go pro last year after his junior year, Coach Bennett went down under to recruit all the Aussie talent he could find. Can't BEAR to watch any more of the Cal game, the Dukies are a little too big and the Bears picked the wrong day to suffer bad vision. Still have hopes hangin' on Ohio St., St. Mary's, WVU, and Washington(last hope for the Pac 10).
