Look at this. Looks pretty revolutionary to me

Re: Car of the future?

Cool looking car. Research Hydrogen and find out that it is not all that it appears. Besides the fact it takes energy to manufacture Hydrogen like burning of fossil fuels the most eneficent way is through electrolysis. Which is how the claim they made the Hydrogen to power the car. We are quite to the Jetson anti mater propulsion systems yet.

Re: Car of the future?

Thats really cool. cool  I've never heard of it & I just retired from GM in August.

Re: Car of the future?

Some very interesting research going on at the moment with hydrogen production from green algea, looks promising. Lets hope the big oil companies don't buy up all the patents as they usually do.

Umm....its not all that it "appears" today because hydrogen fuel infrastructure is not in place -- just like refineries and gas stations weren't in place in the beginning for automobiles.

The infrastructure would require a huge investment, mostly initial, and the process for hydrogen production on a large scale for use in all cars would be electrolysis. The price of electolysis would come down because of the volume of use. Just like the cost of most technology that is adopted for wide use. Electrolysis for hydrogen production results on 0 emissions. Emissions from hydrogen powered vehicles is water vapor. Much better than current emissions.

Just like any new technology there are always hurdles and unforeseen consequences. At the turn of the century (1900) horses, their waste, and their dead bodies were a huge health and pollution issue. The "horseless carriage" was heralded as the way to eliminate that pollution concern. We all know now that the "horseless carriage" had some pollution issues of its own that we are struggling with now (and have been).

This particular technology (hydrogen) is not being developed fast track because of the money associated with the oil industry, and the political attachments therein. (lobbyists, and earmark politicians)

All very true.  Shameful in some aspects.
But what would the air exchange budget look like?  All that water vapor would probably have some effect on......local weather???  If an onboard recycler could.....what? I don't know. But it has to be better overall and investors are probably the very biggest obstacle.  Those who don't need a bona fide guaranty to take a chance and get proven "right" on the market return will mitigate all fears and reluctance to change we can relieve in...

There is a major problem with electrolysis. It takes more electrical energy to produce the Hydrogen gas than the energy recovered in the gas. That means using  petroleum, nuclear or hydro energy to produce the electricity. No free ride in physics.

Yes there is a free ride in physics , and I have the answer, but man & woman kind are not ready for it until we are all known as menkind and womenkind.  Don't ask, I don't tell  tongue . Yet.

That's a big money grab and trust me they have the inside edge on all the information, Craig Venter is one slimy genius.  And oil barons bilk will not change when they are the ones with the new "oil like" substances culled from a hodge-podge of DNA.  Beware of people with huge wallets and huge egos (such as Craig Venter, & UC Scam Diego) both of which readily trample other peoples, places, and things planet wide.  It's ALL about money. And staying in it.  The oil companies are already in bed with this.

Apparently, the future is electric! But that's nothing new. Oh yeah, and how do we come by electricity ???

Re: Car of the future?

I like the diesels that run on fast food grease.  We are gonna eat ourselves to death anyway.  I was standing on the beach with my son (18, gonna be a lifeguard, and ripped to shreds) looked up and down the beach and shook my head.  More blubber than a blue whale.

Let's burn that grease.  tongue  It smells like drench fries.  City buses?
