Topic: Paradise City cover by Colt 45

So the band I'm in, Colt 45, played it's first Theatre show on the 6th February to an almost sold-out crowd of 400 people. Was a great night, and resulted in us getting booked for another night in early October this year (and some secret talks about some pretty neat behind-the-scenes deal).
So,, (with link to another Guns N' Roses cover from the night) here is our all-time favourite song to cover, Paradise City  big_smile

Cheers smile

Rus,

I enjoyed your band's cover and also your solo on Joe's guitar.  Has the band recorded their own material?

Re: Paradise City cover by Colt 45

...great stuff Rus`!... less time on Facebook and you`ll be a genius!  wink

...hows the cover of Still In Love With You coming along?  tongue

Everyone is born a genius, but the process of living de-geniuses them.

Haha,,, yeah, I really must get offline more often  lol
As for the cover,,,, erm,,,, I'll put it forward, haha. As a blues fan, I'm always suggesting tracks by Joe, Gary Moore, Cream, but they only like playing the fast stuff  neutral We've only just added Rocky Mountain Way by Joe Walsh to our set! Haha, it's a start I guess...

Re: Paradise City cover by Colt 45

Hey Russ,
good stuff indeed, nice tight and very competent band. I have some very good advice for you. Covers are a great way to get your self started but you need to get your own material. It is very tempting to go down the cover band route as it is a quick buck but your talent is beyond that. Steer well clear of any manager who hints at this being a good thing to do. They will be in it for a quick buck too and once you label yourselves that way it is near impossible get get out of it. Try some more obscure covers and make them your own. And for anyone reading this I am not looking to manage the band as I have my hands full already, just offering good advice.

All the best.

Great advice Martin.  I was hinting the same thing in my earlier post.

Rus - You're a fine guitarist and I think you're the resident stud in your band.  That said, I think a little persuasion to the band your interest in blues laced rock (on some songs at least) would be interesting.  You guys have a big sound going and that's no easy accomplishment.  Good luck!

Re: Paradise City cover by Colt 45

Yeah you got some nice equipment too, I am all for investing in good stuff for the road, it pays off in the long run.

Hey Martin, cheers for the comments smile As for originals, we currently have 11/12 of our own songs written and going at gigs, some are recorded on a live EP, however none are yet on youtube.  We're currently working on more material as our final year in school is almost over, now we have the free time  yikes  haha. But yeah, over the past few months we've been removing more and more covers, and replacing them with originals.
Been checking out some of VATA's live stuff,, and WOW  tongue  Incredible band I have to say  big_smile

Cheers

11/12 that's more than us! good going Russ. Nothing wrong with doing covers, people love them but eventually they will judge you by your material. If your already on it then that is brilliant, well done  smile
