Topic: My "new" 76 Strat

Haha, it's obviously not that new...
Well, the search is over. After having checked approximately half a ton of great 70s Strats I came upon this baby and it simply blew me away. I don't care about any of the predjudices against CBS period instruments made from the Mid 70s on. If it sounds good, it is good. I especially love the feel and look of the 70s instruments and I am myself a kid of the 70s  big_smile

The 76 weighs in at 7.2-7.3lbs (3,3Kg), the guitar had only one owner who bought it in 1976. He never changed a thing, not even a screw. All stamps, simply everything is like it should be. The frets are still great, too. It has some dings and dongs, but that is the usual RNR wear.

The sound is very growly, the playability is awesome. Playing some SRV stuff through my JTM45, I must admit never sounded closer. The pick ups do a phenomenal job. To me the sound appears a little warmer than with my other Strats (J. Hendrix and J. Vaughan Strat), it sounds lightyears better in fact. I was really surprised when I first plugged it into a little Marshall 5.

Honestly, I have the impression that this is going to be the same endless honeymoon phase as with my Gibson LP Trad. Gold Top and my Marshall JTM45  smile

Re: My "new" 76 Strat

looks pretty good, mate!

am hoping to shop for a 57 Gold Top re-issue in a few months, but have a funny feeling I might end up with a Strat, maybe the Eric Johnson model (haven't tried either of them). I guess I could also get an LP standard or classic/trad and a Strat for the same dosh as a 57 re-issue..... ha, we'll see what happens when I walk in the store...

You never know what's going to happen.....

Re: My "new" 76 Strat

Man that is nice, I am not a strat guy but I really would like to get a 76 strat to match my 76 Jass Bass and 76 Ibanez Les Paul.

Lovely jubbly. It's even been relic'd.  wink

Re: My "new" 76 Strat

that's so nice. it's just like the strat i've dreamt of owning. a good friend of mine brought one similar to yours new in the 70's. he never uses it much these days and i've been trying to get him to part with it but he just won't. it plays so nice and sounds great, one day he'll have to sell it me smile

Fender 60's Strat>Fulltone OCD V4>>TC Electronics Polytune>Orange Dual Terror>Torres 2x10 Cab(with a vintage 30 and a greenback)

Re: My "new" 76 Strat

It reminds me of something Richie Blackmore would play while he was in Deep Purple.  Your ears and hands are your best bet for telling you if its good or not.  I'm very glad you shopped around and picked up the best one.

Re: My "new" 76 Strat

love it jimi, i have 75 strat sounds wonderful, i often wondered why fender made some strats with a tremelo and some without i guess it was just the idea at the time

Re: My "new" 76 Strat

I'd say don't make yourself to many worries about the decision. The best way to find out is go out and try. I recently bought the 1976 Strat which has a hard tail and I'd say it's one of the best sounding Strats I have ever heard, but I wouldn't go that far to claim that the HT makes the difference. I have two other Strats, one with floating trem one with a blocked trem and they sound awesome, too. It depends on the individual instruement, on the wood, on the sound character. See what matches best and what feels rigth for you.
