I forget which show, or maybe it was a "B" movie western, but I saw a plane flying in the distance! lol

The F Troop writers pulled a fast one on the censors back in the day. The Indian tribe in the show were the Fahkowees and almost every episode would have someone from the F Troop ask, where the Fahkowee? It was a fave of mine too.

I believe you are mistaken.  The were the Heckowies.  I had a book of F Troop stories, and the TV show had the storyline the same as the book.  They were lost , they cried "Where the heck are we"? Hence the Heckowies.  Maybe your ears were more acute than mine, but that was the "official" version.  I never heard Fahkowee.  Not saying you didn't Jdawg. LOVED that show.  (Sgt. What a wonderful topic!  big_smile

I'm with Jdawg, The Lone Ranger was THE man!  cool I loved the title music and his faithful sidekick too. In fact, didn't all the cool heroes have a 'faithful sidekick' - either human, equine, or canine?  tongue

And little Rusty with Rin Tin Tin....and Zorro....and Have Gun Will Travel, all in glorious black and white...ah, the old days.....

Older readers may also recall that Mad Magazine had a regular feature called 'Scenes we'd like to see'. My favorite was when the LR and Tonto get chased into a box canyon, backs to the wall, about to be savaged by the hordes of Indians in front of them - the LR turns to Tonto and says, "Well Tonto, it looks like we've finally had it", to which Tonto replies,

"What you mean we, white man?".

Sis, Wagontrain starred Ward Bond and Death Valley Days used Ronnie Raygun as the host for 20 Mule Team Borax. A good buddy flies for American and I tagged him Sky King a number of years ago. Gary embraces the nickname even though he's not old enough to remember the TV series. From out of the west comes....Sky King! As far as I know Sky may have been the first lawman to use an airplane to patrol his beat. I wonder if that's where the Highway Patrol got the idea to catch freeway speeders?????? Thanks a lot Sky!

So last night I was having trouble getting to sleep and started flipping channels on TV, when what do I see but "Have Gun Will Travel"! I watched two episodes and then fell asleep with a smile on my face...haven't seen that show in probably 40 years!
BTW, my favorite was always the Rifleman, which is still running (ME tv?) in the Chicago area.

I remember Festus on Gunsmoke.  He made me laugh.  Don't remember Chester all that well, 'cept for limp.
My parents didn't want me to watch Gunsmoke, cause it was too adult...and refused to explain why.

One night I said why just cause Mr Dillon's a Marshall and his girlfriend's a Madam?

Dad blew all his whiskey outa his nose  lol and moms went to gasping and calling on the Almighty.

I got to stay up and watch Gunsmoke after that, little brother, too.

I don't know why, but The Big Valley was not ever seen by me until I had moved to California as an adult.  I had never seen it and it just became totally addictive, sort of a historical semi-nonfiction soap opera western.  One of the very best in my opinion.  A great cast of characters, who had stellar careers prior or post.  But that was Audra, Shred, played by Linda (she shoulda been Wonder Woman) Evans.  She wasn't wonder woman but she was on Dynasty I think (never watched that or Dallas, and don't call that a western ever).  Audra, (was born in the wrong century i.e., not mine that's why) her guys were always dying off!  She was a forward-looking, forward riding cowgirl (no ladylike side saddle rider, yee hawa!).  No idea how I only came to know it years after it was 7 years out of production.

Re: Old TV Westerns

You're right Rocket, Big Valley was a real good one, Lee Majors played Heath & then went on to marry Farrah Fawcett & become The Six Million Dollar Man.

Does anyone anyone remember a show called Lancer? The show was on for 2 seasons & then one of the young stars got in a motorcycle accident & lost an arm & a leg, then the show was cancelled.

Re: Old TV Westerns

I loved Kung Fu!!  Carradine's look and spiritual delivery made him the perfect fit for this show.  Bill, I forgot about the grasshopper line until you mentioned it.

My grandparents were huge Gunsmoke and Bonanza fans. (along with Lawrence Welk, Rocket) Someone help me out here, were either of these shows on Sunday night?  I developed a serious crush on Michael Landon (little Joe in Bonanza) and I went on to be a Little House in the Prairie fan, just to tune into Michael Landon.  He was one of the most gorgeous men on TV  tongue  and played the role of such a good family man/gentleman, good husband and father...all great combos in my book.  Landon grew up about 20 minutes from where I currently live in a town that Joe has done a couple of shows in. Anyway, Michael Landon died way too young, he made a great cowboy/outdoorsy kind of guy.

I wanted to test if you can still watch it 35 years later. You can! I liked it so much that I´ve bought meanwhile a second DVD box. It might be nostalgia, but who cares.
