Topic: Doheny Blues Festival 2010...a bit of a flop?

This isn't going to go down for a couple months, but this years lineup seems pretty weak. The headliner is Booker T. Jones, and so far they've announced The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Otis Taylor, Igor Prado with Lynwood Slim, and Big Sam's Funky Nation. I've roughly heard of two of those acts, but that may be because of a lack of deeper blues knowledge...

What do you guys think? I don't think this year will be very big for them.

We've gone 5 years straight. We will not attend this year. I agree, checked the lineup and  roll .

I would like to see Otis Taylor - but is it enough for a whole festival?

Blues? Festival?  OK.  Otis Taylor, Yes!  It's straange.

Booker T is a genius, but unsung.  He and Steve Cropper and Al Jackson Jr, and then Duck Dunn were the driving force behind Stax in Memphis.  He's a lifetime award winner.  Otis Redding, Albert King, Isaac Hayes. Steven Stills, Neil Young, and more.

They (the MGs) backed up A LOT of guitarists @ Crossroads 04...Can he headline? dunno

Anyone bluesy would like it.  Jeff is right, those guys are (were, Al has been gone 35 years) totally funky, rocking amazing.
Kim Wilson & the T-Birds have always brought a good show and I've seen various iterations.  I'd go just to see either one, let alone both with others.

The T-birds performed at the same show as Joe in Davenport last year...they were just ok for me. Kim Wilson played a harmonica solo that lasted about 2 hours, or so it seemed.

He has been doing that for far too long.  15 years by my own witnessing account.  It's gratuitous and showing off.  It is amazing for awhile, and longer to some, especially the drunk.  I really wish he'd cut that out.  Otherwise I've always enjoyed the band and Kim.  Good guitarists have inhabited that outfit.
