Topic: Old TV Westerns

Does anybody else miss the TV westerns of the 50's & 60's like "The Rifleman"..."Wanted Dead Or Alive... "Have Gun Will Travel". Brings back a lot of good childhood memories. smile

Re: Old TV Westerns

weird that you would post this today. Only us old farts would remember these, and others, but with extended cable now you can catch all sorts of old stuff. This morning I was bored with ESPN and local news and found a Daniel Boone (Fess Parker) episode. I laughed until my sides hurt, they had Ricardo Montalbon (spelling may be off) as an unscrupulous trader who was posing as a colonel in the British army. Only problem is, he still had the thick Spanish accent. I recognized some others in the show but could not come up with names. We have one particular channel that plays a lot of really old stuff, but only some western movies. yes, I miss Chuck Connors and seems like he played professional baseball or football. My favorite as a very young boy was Sky King, and his daughter Penny. Can you remember the dog's name, I'm at a loss?

Re: Old TV Westerns

Oh my, never would have remembered Branded but I can almost hum the intro song, priceless. How about also, "Palladin"??

Re: Old TV Westerns

I caught Sky King in reruns, Penny had a white german shepherd, I think his name was White Shadow.

Re: Old TV Westerns

As a child my introduction was watching Bonanza and The High Chapperal after The Big Match on Sunday Afternoons
Memorable and Impressionable, thought they were super heroes and cool
But my favourite was F Troop, Real fun, i think i need to get that on DVD

Re: Old TV Westerns

My cable provider has a couple of western channels that I watch frequently.  At one time or another most of the great western series are on and my favorites are Cheyenne and early Gunsmoke.  My wife who normally can't stand those shows has become transfixed on Clint Walker.  She says he's the perfect male specimen and we love to sing the theme song at the end of the show.  Have Gun Will Travel seems a bit dated nowadays, but has that killer theme song that always reminds me of the scene in Stand By Me where the boys sing it walking along the railroad tracks.

Chuck Conners played 1st base for the Chicago Cubs.
How about Rawhide, with a very young Clint Eastwood??

The wife says Shadow for the dog. Yes we remember all of them. Rin Tin Tin, Gunsmoke, Bonanza with the Cartwright clan. Dated us too. Hopalong Cassiday for the real old timers.

Re: Old TV Westerns

Some time ago I bought a box with the first 20 films of "Kung Fu" with David Carradine. Some senior forum members might remember it from the early 70s. Strictly spoken it´s not a Western but rather an East-Western.
I wanted to test if you can still watch it 35 years later. You can! I liked it so much that I´ve bought meanwhile a second DVD box. It might be nostalgia, but who cares.

The F Troop writers pulled a fast one on the censors back in the day. The Indian tribe in the show were the Fahkowees and almost every episode would have someone from the F Troop ask, where the Fahkowee? It was a fave of mine too.

Re: Old TV Westerns

While watching an episode Of Have Gun Will Travel, Palladin was helping herd cattle & I caught a glimpse of an old tanker truck rusting away in a field in the backround. Either the editors missed it or left it in to save money, I couldn't believe my eyes.

Re: Old TV Westerns

Old Fart here!  Showed MsTia a preview on tv of Rawhide a couple years back on some special.  She got a good look at Rowdy Yates (Clint Eastwood) without his shirt on and had to fan herself.

Re: Old TV Westerns

Chuck played for the Boston Celtics 1946-47 season then left the season early for spring training with the Brooklyn Dodgers, he didn't make it. He kicked around in the minors for a few years. In may of 49 he made the Dodgers but returned to the minors after 5 weeks & 1 at bat. In 51 he hit 2 home runs in a brief stint with the Cubs. Another trip to the minors where he was discovered by a casting director for MGM. And the rest as they say is history.

I believe you are mistaken.  The were the Heckowies.  I had a book of F Troop stories, and the TV show had the storyline the same as the book.  They were lost , they cried "Where the heck are we"? Hence the Heckowies.  Maybe your ears were more acute than mine, but that was the "official" version.  I never heard Fahkowee.  Not saying you didn't Jdawg. LOVED that show.  (Sgt.
