Re: Davy Knowles’ European Tours February, March & April 2010

Great reviews Phil – you haven't left me much have you?

I will try and fill in some background for the gig on the 9th - I didn't go to the other one but as it was a little (4 numbers  roll ) on the short side I think I chose the right one.

Bonabuddy count was me, Wooders, eldo56 and Mansfield plus, we now know, tewker as well - so not a bad showing from the Forum.

We were standing up against the stage right in front of PK. Davy's guitar was really hard to hear for the first couple of numbers but they brought it up some for the rest of the show. I've never seen Davy live before and I was impressed. He comes over as quite shy when you meet him but he's master of the stage (now who does that remind me of?).

Almost Cut My Hair had everyone gasping in awe. There was Davy playing just with his left hand, foot nursing the wah pedal – what a sound. I wish Oh Well had been longer and had had a bit of jamming in the middle like Almost Cut My Hair – the crowd loved it and were singing along enthusiastically. Looking at Davy exchanging glances with PK gave me the impression they hadn't rehearsed it much but you wouldn't know that from hearing it. Davy's voice does have a bit of the Peter Green to it when you think about it.

Now on to the famous setlist on the Starbucks bag. What Phil didn't say was that he'd asked PK if he could have it during the break between numbers and PK said “sure”. Then someone tried to snaffle it away from Phil during the encore but our doughty Forum buddy was having none of it and he saved it for posterity. Even funnier was after the gig there was a line of blokes standing behind Phil wanting to take a photo of the setlist like it was some sort of religious relic. Classic!

So a great evening and I'll certainly be seeing Davy again when he next comes to town.

Re: Davy Knowles’ European Tours February, March & April 2010

Very good follow up to Phil's review David!  smile

Funny, that same thing happened to me in Philadelphia at their New Years Eve show. Davy was standing right above me for the show and before they started, I took some pictures of the set list that Davy was going to use. Of course, when everyone around me saw what I was doing, the word got out about taking it at the end. I made mental note of it for later on. Well, it was New Years Eve and everyone, except for Nic and I, were drinking heavily. Actually, I only had 1/2 bottle of beer during the whole show, because some young fellow decided to drink mine when he ran dry. Anyway, by the time Davy and the Guys hit the last song of the night, everyone was so loaded that I think they forgot about the list. I snuck it off the stage and put it under my camera bag. I got it signed like Phil did and the set list, along with a signed poster I bought, will be framed and hung up on my wall. Here's a picture of the set list from Philly:

Sounds like you guys had another good gig on Tuesday - good to hear.  big_smile
I was very tempted to make the trip down again, but decided against it on this occasion. Probably a good job because as you know the two of us are heading your way for a little light entertainment next week now.
I'm guessing with all the publicity Davy has generated on this brief visit, it won't be long before he's back for more dates.

Thanks Lynn!  smile

Also, if anyone is interested, you can hear what Nic and I heard on New Years Eve from the live radio broadcast on WXPN radio. Davy and the Guys performed a live on air short set at noontime at the World Cafe in Philadelphia. The place was jammed full and gave us all a little preview into the fireworks that night. The 8 song set list was:

Coming Up For Air
Riverbed
Come Home
Oh Well
Tear Down the Walls
In A Little While
Keep on Searching
Almost Cut My Hair

The total run time is about one hour. Here's the link that you can download it from:

Enjoy,

Re: Davy Knowles’ European Tours February, March & April 2010

I heard it too. Riverbed sounded so much better as played by the current band than the version on Coming Up For Air, Tear Down The Walls too. It starts to make me realise what I've been missing.  sad
Great to hear it though, you can hear the session on the Paul Jones website for the next week.
Paul also played the song Nightlife from Black Rock and next week's enture show is dedicated to Joe! smile

There are some pics of the session on the Paul Jones' website. Unfortunately, I think the photographer needs a new camera.  http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/shows/paul- … y-knowles/

Eric on Davy's Forum has kindly uploaded the songs from the show to here: http://ezyeric1.ipower.com/downloads/bds/Paul%20Jones/

There is also a bonus track, Come Home: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00r7pl5

I've asked Eric to upload this one too. If he does I'll post the link.

Thanks for posting this Phil! I met Eric at the Chicago show in November last year, very nice young Lad. The radio broadcast from Philadelphia that I had posted above was also from him.

Yeh 5th 6th and 7th April. Just need him to add the 10th at Pacific Road and I'll be jumping back flips, Jeez it would be good to get davy, aynsley and Oli on the same bill - How awesome would that be!

Re: Davy Knowles’ European Tours February, March & April 2010

I'm planning to go to Davy's Bush Hall show on 7th April.

I haven't been to the venue yet although I've got the Steepwater Band in my diary there on 29th March. For anyone in shouting distance of west London, Bush Hall isn't too far away from the Shepherds Bush Empire. Apparently it's an old musichall.

They're not showing Davy's gig yet but their website is at ;

Re: Davy Knowles’ European Tours February, March & April 2010

I recorded Davy on the Paul Jones show myself off the BBC iPlayer. I've just listened to the 4 tracks 3 times in succession and I'd say that Davy has made some sort of quantum leap up the musicians' scale. When I first came across him (from this forum of course) I thought he was good but it could go either way. Now, listening to those tracks, I reckon he's on the launch pad.

Just my view of course.

I'll be seeing you at Bush Hall then Phil.
