Topic: MIM White Stratocaster

So I've had to play my backup Stratocaster at practice yesterday due to the other Strat is still waiting to get rewired after a nasty fall.  Anys this White one is my first Electric I got 10 years ago and has been rewired more then I care to admit.  Its latest incarnation is GFS Little Killers humbuckers. The Bridge is 15 ohms, and the neck and middle I ordered both at 10 Ohms.  I liked the guitar like this, and everybody at the practice was telling me those are the pickups that should go in my Sunburst strat that is on the side line right now.  I like traditional single coil strats because I think they are twangy but not as much as Telecaster and not as smooth as a Les Paul.  Everyone insists that the little Killers is the best sound any of my strats has had.  They don't sound like humbuckers due to them being stratocaster sized.  Not as Fat.  But they make the amp roll over and beg for mercy.  Think I should get another set of those?

Re: MIM White Stratocaster

I'm one that likes diversity in my collection. So if one guitar has them, I usually don't duplicate. It sort of bugs me theres people that put like I dunno EMG's in all of their guitars... why just just have one or two guitars then?

I have those lil killers 12K in the bridge of one of my strats and people told me the same thing. You're right, it's not a very stratty sound... but it is hot! There's no hum, it is surprisingly clear. I thought about putting 3 of these into the guitar, but I have others in the middle and neck.

I guess it boils down to how bad do you want your strat to sound like a strat. Or if you wanna please the masses with the tone you get from the rails.

Re: MIM White Stratocaster

When I first wired it I had a old set of Seymour Duncan Duckbuckers for the middle and neck.  It was ok but the jump in volume alone was enough for me to buy another 2 pickups.  Hind sight I would have just bought the calibrated kit and saved on shipping and $5 bucks.  Its a monster, doesn't sound like at strat but the pickup come nowhere near a full sized humbucker with half the power.  Its just raw power and that was what I based the guitar on.  I even used 1meg pots!  Its just too much with that so I might drop it down to 500k or 250k.

But I totally agree with what you said "Why buy the same guitar over again?"  It would be different if I was a touring musician and needs backups for the backups to the backups like Mr. Bonamassa has.

Re: MIM White Stratocaster

I also used the 1 meg pot with my lil killers. It's now in an indonesian strat with a 250k pot though and it still kick the buttocks.
