Topic: Power Attenuator - will guitar clean up?

I have been thinking of buying an attenuator for my JTM45. I usually use a TS9 or OCD, but I'd like to get the amps natural overdrive.

Can those of you, using an attenuator tell me if the guitar still cleans up when backing the volume knob on the guitar? I mean real clean sound, not medium clean crunchy or something like that.

Thank you.

I used a Hotplate attenuator on a Marshall 1987X 50 watt Plexi Re-Issue head a few years ago.  I did not like it. It would not clean up with the volume knob on the guitar. (I was using a Tele!) It also had a negative effect on the tone with heavy attenuation.  I sold it after about six months.

The Ultimate Attenuator certainly will, but they sure are pricey. Good enough for Sonny Landreth, good enough for me!
