Topic: Power source for Pedals

I've recently bought a lot of pedals and also bought a adapter called a 1 spot, it let me plug up to 8 pedals.  I have this cheap DOD flanger that really does good in the effects loop but other wise sucks ( I paid $15 for it) anyway when I plug it up to a wall outlet it starts getting really noisey.  I want to do away with 9 volt batteries because I've been known to leave pedals sitting around a lot and the battery will corrode.  The 1 spot for the $40 kit I bought suits my needs just fine, but do you think that these more expensive power blocks or power tanks make a huge sound difference?  Or more important do you think it could help this POS DOD pedal?  Or should I sell it back on Ebay and buy a more expensive pedal?

O yea - Those daisy chains are the fastest way to noise and bad sound.  The Voodoo Lab Power Plus II is basically the industry standard.  All the power outlets on it are isolated... noise free power wise.  It will probably make your tone better too as you don't have just one 9v source running umpteen effects like with the daisy chain... each pedal would have its own power, giving it the best possible sound available.  The V.L. is pretty universal as well.

Plus the Pedal Power 2 has the cool "sag" circuit, so if you want to pretend to be EJ, you don't have to put dying batteries in your OD pedal. Like Ben said, it's pretty much the industry standard now, it's a no brainer (if you got the money to spend).

Actually, I remember being all excited about the sag circuit when I first got mine, but I don't even know if I still have it set to sag...I think I turned it off. Do you other Pedal Power users use the "sag"?  hmm If so, for what pedals?

No, and I don't know any one that does.  I always thought of trying it.  I think its designed for vintage type pedals.  I was thinking about setting it on my JMI ToneBender MkII or my Wah just too see what happens...

I have tried all the pedals with and without batteries.  They don't loose much which is why I kept the one spot.  I agree its not the best possible sound for them, but like I said for the money it works really good.  Godlyke suck but the one spot is a pretty good for a bang for the buck adapter.  Its really just that DOD pedal that sucks, I'll more then likely replace that as it is the true trouble maker.

Sometimes cheap pedals just don't want to run off of power supplies with other pedals.
I had a really cheap electro harmonix chorus and it would not work with other pedals but with it's own 9v supply it would be fine. Though, the pedal sucked as a whole so I sold it on ebay for I think 10 quid.

+1000  I was a previous 1 Spot guy and now that I have a Pedal Power II it's worlds better.  I'm actually planning on getting a second so I can run more than 8 pedals!

I use a Voodoo Labs Pedal Power II - seem to be quite the popular model. Before that, I used a Diago Powerstation. Excellent power supply, which I highly recommend. Only changed to the PPII as it suited my configuration for getting setup and breakdown times to a minimum!

Ditto on the Pedal Power 2. I have the AC version as well. Never been a problem with new or "vintage" pedals.

DOD Flange is sold on Ebay now so all my noise problems are gone.  It might get better without the 1 spot but its pretty good right now.  My main Strats dead right now so I'm waiting on my insurance adjuster to get back to me about major repairs or possibly replace it all together.  If you didn't seen my post on Sunday before I deleted it my wife and I had a disagreement that ended with the guitar tossed down the drive way.  For all who did read it, I'm very sorry if it was offensive.  A few member thought I was a bit out of line for this forum so I deleted it.  RicB truely sorry for the verbal bashing we did, now that I slept and had time to process what went down I was totally being a jerk.  I'll let you know about the guitar I might try to just fix it.

I threw my strat at my drummer once. Back in the late 80's we were touring and he was screwing up with drugs a bit. We were sound checking for a show with George Thorogood and he pissed me off. I saw red and threw it at him. Took a hunk of paint off the body. bummer-

I have 2 chunks of finish missig, 1 small place of wood broke off and then a larger chunk as well.  The cutaways have a stress crack on either side but I couldn't break it by hand with the neck bolted on and pulling on it.  The 2 of the 4bolt holes in the body that hold the neck on the body are cracked, getting my buddy to bring some real wood glue industrial strength in for that.  Last the Neck head stock has a 4 inch long stress crack that runs from the back of the neck at the 1 fret to the "D" Tunning Machine glue that too.  The 5way switch is shot it landed on the it basically, so I decided since I don't want to refinish it that I would just put RS Guitarworks Vintage Strat kit in it.  Insurance would have covered it but they wanted to take the guitar as a whole and pay out what was left after I paid an unknown deductable.  To me this guitar is more sentimental then any dollar sign they would really give me for it.  I could have them pay for the work that is required to fix it but I do my own work and wouldn't trust this with just anybody to work on.  I want it done right and the only way I know it will be done to my liking is doing it myself.  For the record the guitar or music in general wasn't the cause of the fight.  I know I can get it back to where it was and if it can play as good as it did, then it should sound better with the RS kit and the fact the body breaths now with all that paint missing  tongue

Funny, I still use the Boss Red Colored Powered Supply Pedal that I've had since the 80's.  I run 4-5 9v pedals through it and I have no noise or tone suck.  Not sure if these are made anymore anybody ever use one of these???

I was having tons of ground issues and RF hum with my rig a while back and I went and purchased the Furman SPB8C pedalboard with power coniditioner and that fixed every issue that I was having.  It's got wall wort power inputs, pedal power included and the conditioner keeps everything clean, even when you play seedy Fargo bars.....
