The Steepwater Band & Marc Ford
to Tour in Concert
~ with Dates in the Midwest and Spain
In late winter 2010, the Chicago-based trio hops over the pond for six-week European Tour - a first in the history of the band. It kicks off with a bang as Marc Ford joins The Steepwater Band on the Spanish leg of the tour. Marc’s work with the Black Crowes, Ben Harper, and Booker T has made him one of the most celebrated guitarists of his generation.

Recently, The Steepwater Band commissioned Ford to produce their latest release, Grace and Melody – which met with critical acclaim. The flow of mutual admiration and respect during that studio session created a bond between the musicians and talk of a collaborative tour was on the horizon. The ten-city tour begins in Bilbao and stretches across Spain’s beautiful landscape to Madrid, Gijon and Barcelona (just to name a few). Each show will feature a TSB set to get the evening rolling. After the opening sets, Ford will join the band. Together they will perform songs from his solo releases as well as songs from the Steepwater catalog. These evenings of music are bound to astonish and inspire fans.

For the folks in the United States who cannot make the Spain shows, you are in luck. The Steepwater Band & Marc Ford will be playing two Midwest shows to kick-off the tour before flying over to España. The House of Blues’ funky Back Porch Stage will be the site in TSB’s home town of Chicago on Saturday, February 20. Tickets for this show go on-sale December 11, at 10 a.m. via Ticketmaster. Grab your tickets now, as this show is bound to sell-out. On Sunday, February 21, TSB & Marc will travel north to Wisconsin for an intimate show at the fabulous Green Room in Sheboygan. Tickets for this show go on sale December 14 via the Green Room’s website.

After Steepwater & Ford rip through Spain, TSB continues on their own to debut in many cities across Europe. This month long trip will see them playing from London to Prague and many other historical places. *As of December 8, 2009 - some markets/venues are currently pending, be sure to check back to www.steepwater.com in the coming weeks for a full schedule.

Once The Steepwater Band returns from this epic tour, they begin work on their next chapter - stay tuned.

Now growing up it ain't anything but all This indecision with these debts and doubts
And worries hanging over my head. When I was a child I spoke as a child,
I wish I could remember what I said.

Re: The Steepwater Band & Marc Ford to Tour in Concert

2 fantastic shows this past weekend. Saturday night at the HOB in Chicago. It was at what they call the back porch which is really the restraunt section with no tables in the middle. Sold out day of show (I think that's 300 capacity). Steepwater Band played a 45 minute set by themselves then after a 20 minute break came back out with Marc Ford. They played for 90 minutes, mostley Ford solo songs (one Steepwater song) ending with a cover of "Are You Experienced". They came back out for a 2 song encore of "She's 19 years old" and Ford's "California".

Sunday was at a dive in Sheboygan to a sold out 100 people. Much looser and rocking. Steepwater Band playe an hour opener. Followed by a 90 minute set with Ford a break another 45 minute set with Ford then the encore. A lot of different songs than on Saturday. They covered more Steepwater Band songs with Ford this time around so things kept rockin,. Just 2 fantastic shows. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Paul,

I knew it was going to be a great show Sunday and sorry I missed it, but I still am not feeling 100%. Just couldn't see standing for over 3 hours after working all day. Glad the two shows really turned out. I have yet to here from Jacque and Ken so, they must be speechless!  smile

What's next?

Well, I took your advice Jim (thanks too to ReverendPaul and Roy for encouraging me to go with their reviews) and went and saw the band this week. I can't tell you how much I enjoyed their music. The experience at Bush Hall was (how shall I put it?) odd. But the band were excellent.

When I arrived I had a look at the merch stall and got talking to a really nice bloke (Steve?) manning the stall. He is one of the crew. Anyway, he knows you Jim! He remarked on my Gov't Mule t-shirt and I said I'd heard through the JB forum that they'd supported Mule on a recent tour. So it got round to the forum and I asked if he knew a Jim Moody from Oklahoma City and he said “yeah I know Jim, haven't seen him for a while but say hi from me”.

I got myself a beer and strolled into the main room while the support band were playing. Oh sh*t! It was nearly empty. Still, I took some time to check out the room which is very ornate – chandeliers, plaster mouldings, framed pictures (see my photos). Apparently, Bush Hall was once a dancehall and they've restored it to how it was when it opened in 1905. One thing though, the sound is very good for a tall room and they have a decent PA

I kept thinking that surely everyone would come in once the Steepwater Band were on but sadly I was disappointed. There can only have been about 60 people there at the start and (I'll get the negatives out the way first) only about 40 at the end. Now, as the evening wore on I figured out that the drain of people wasn't anything to do with not liking the band but that there was some kind of party going on backstage during the gig  hmm . We punters were buying our beer at the bar but quite a few people seemed to be guests of the support band and were walking off through the door at the side of the stage every now and again to get their refreshment and disappearing for some time. Mmmmmm.

The Steepwater Band saved the evening though. They put on a show like the place was packed - rocking, jamming and generally being super-professional musicians despite the small crowd. They DID play At The Fall Of The Day and my other big favourite Healer. The set was heavy with tracks from the new album Grace And Melody (which I bought while I was there) plus others I recognised from YouTube vids like the brilliant Revelation Sunday. As far as I know the only cover they did was the Rolling Stones' Live With Me.

I can see why they went down well on their tour with Gov't Mule as not only are they rockers but they can jam away with the best of 'em like on the brooding World Keeps Moving On.

Anyway, I had a great time. If the band ever read this... thanks guys for some great music - those Londoners don't know what they missed. I'm going back to Bush Hall next week with Wooders to see Davy Knowles so it'll be interesting to see what the atmosphere in the place is like with (hopefully) a bigger crowd.

Re: The Steepwater Band & Marc Ford to Tour in Concert

Thanks for that review, David. I'm sorry I didn't come with you now as I think I would have appreciated their music and jamming style. Thanks also for doing a rece on Bush Hall in advance of Davy's gig.  big_smile

Thanks for the review and pics. The first time they came in to town they played in front of about 15 people on a Wednesday night. I didn't know what to expect they were just looking for a gas stop on their way to Houston. I had heard their album and thought it was kind of raw but worth a listen. They frickin rocked. Jeff is a great player and the bass player and drummer just smoked. Brought them back later on a Friday had about 50 or 60 and they kicked **** again. They are one of those bands that does it live. I do like the new studio album but live they are the real deal. Been trying to get them back but they just haven't made it this far south of Chicago. Steven and I keep in touch. Nice guy and works hard for the band. All around good guys. It is great seeing them get some attention. They are a three piece power trio like anybody here would like.
