Topic: Relic Guitar Studio

Has anyone ordered anything from these guys?
I ordered a strat body on November 25th and I still havn't got it, nor do I have an image or anything. They're not the best at replying to emails either so sometimes a week can pass before I get an email telling me very little, it almost sounds like an excuse, like they're trying to buy more time by saying "soon" as opposed to giving me a solid delivery date.

Re: Relic Guitar Studio

Jimi these guys used to trade under Kavanagh customs (I think the guy was called john) I was ordering a monterey strat from them last year and they seemingly disappeared just before I placed the order... I think they have had a bad rep or something.. Good luck with your order and  I hope that your ordered off a credit card as atleast you can recoupe the costs if it doesnt turn up.

Really this serves a lesson to any1 if you use your main bank debit cards on online ordering it would be wise to get a credit card as if anything fraudulent happens on the debit card you will have to change your bank account whereas if you have anything fraudulent on a credit card you can simply cancel it and get another smile

Ahh the joys of having a girlfriend who works in a bank eh?

Re: Relic Guitar Studio

I had heard they might be the same guys as Kavanagh customs.
The guy is called John. I do worry now that I'm being ripped off here! I'll see what happens. I've emailed the guy and asked for a phone number and a picture of what has been done the body I've ordered so far. I better get it soon!

Re: Relic Guitar Studio

this news needs to be spread to every guitar forum and Harmony Central user reviews.
even the Better Business Bureau (if US based) or other country equivalent.

Re: Relic Guitar Studio

That's what I'm thinking. Thought this would be a good start.
Can't get this guys number at all.
I tried WD Music who he deals directly with and even they can't find the number. And I know it's not WD hiding it, they're good people. This guy should be bankrupt, he's, but the sounds of things, screwing over a lot of people!

Re: Relic Guitar Studio

Its a shame this wasnt last july I had his address wrote down it was soemwhere in manchester.. (it was on his old website).. Jimi how did you pay? go see your bank tell them of whats happened, they should atleast be able to get your money back. And send him a proper email asking for a response within a reasonable time limit i.e. give him a week

Not sure if any of this will help...

In all honesty I'd give him max 2 weeks to reply, then I'd go see my bank and tell them whats happened and see if they can get the money back..

In the very least lodging a complaint to the registrar will get the site shut down or put under some sort of investigation.

Re: Relic Guitar Studio

I payed through paypal. I have checked and I cannot get my money back through them as it's a completed transfer so the money is now entirely John Kavanaghs.
That's what I may do, email with a time limit.

Could anyone maybe email them and pose as an interested customer too? I've already done this once and got a reply yesterday, I emailed on friday. So he was very quick to reply, quoting a possible £690 for himself if I were to purchase a telecaster kit.

If you do email him could you post on here if/when you get a response?

Re: Relic Guitar Studio

I just emailed him today to "see if they ship to US"

they replied to my email about three hours later.

Re: Relic Guitar Studio

Jesus christ, this guy is a total scammer!
I've been on the phone to paypal, they're going to investigate the situation.

Re: Relic Guitar Studio

i just replied to his reply:

"Hi, I was just talking to one of my friends from the UK who ordered a strat body back in November. I'll wait to see it if (or when) it comes in before I order anything.
How long does it take? The buzz on the internet is that you guys are not that trustworthy. What's the deal?"

Re: Relic Guitar Studio

Good shout NPB let us know what he says in return to that. If anything...it's quite likely he'll avoid answering that one.

He just responded.
I will email it to you. If anyone one else would like a copy, feel free to email me.

It does sound like there "could" be hope. Right now I'm thinking if you do get your part, it's just bad customer service and communication. Unless this guy is really a huge scammer,  He explains the delay due to the holiday season (justifying 10-12 week production) instead of 6-8 week production time.

He told me:
"Of course, you have to bear in mind that someone trying to scam you would say the very same things, so by all means do wait for your friend to receive his parts - which he will - before making your decision."

Those are the cliff notes anyways.

Re: Relic Guitar Studio

He finally got in touch!
Apparently it's behind schedule. He has said he'll throw in a free part if I was needing anything else for the build. So I've asked for a relic'd string tree. Didn't want to push my luck and ask for relic'd klusons! haha
We'll see how long this takes.

Also, I may post pics cause his old company apparently had some bad finishes. So heres hoping the finish is a good thin nitro.

Hi there Jimi,

I've been trying to track down any information on this company and discovered the conversation on this forum.

I wondered if you had an update on your order from this guy... I'm running into a similar situation after ordering a fiesta red Strat body in January.

The last ime I contacted him he told me he'd send pictures of the body I'd ordered in a couple of weeks, which was over a month ago now (I had to email him twice to get that out of him).

Any information regarding how this guy operates and whether or not he's actually legit would be much appreciated.

Regards,

R

Last I'd heard there were photos and he was waiting for shipping to deliver it. Production around the holiday pushed the company behind (double production time) and combined with weary customers created lots of anxiety for this company and its customers.

Cheers for the quick reply, mate!

Sounds like he's stringing folk along and we're none the wiser... I'll be a very, very unhappy bunny if I have to write off £245... rich I aint.

I'll see how things go here for now. Thanks again.

Re: Relic Guitar Studio

Well, as you all must know now, I had a lot of trouble with Relic Guitar Studio. After recieving a terribly finished body (no sanding prior to finishing and no wetsanding/buffing after finishing), I got on to trading standards and I now have my money back big_smile
So do avoid the company, but if you do use them, fight hard to get your money back after realising the mistake  tongue

What I then opted for was to take my old mexican strat body and strip the crappy thick finish off and give it a nitro finish.
I done this with both body and neck, plus lightly aged the parts and got some fatboy aged screws in (highly recommend you lot look at fatboy stuff, they do great aged parts!)...heres the result (that's also a 56 decal on the headstock)

http://s572.photobucket.com/albums/ss17 … C01173.jpg

hopefully after a few weeks the body will start to check with some assistance. The front of the headstock has started (I had done that a couple of months ago)

Re: Relic Guitar Studio

when you say check, do you mean chip off or crack?
