Topic: ZVEX Distortron

Anyone got experience with one of these?
They seem pretty cool. Needing a good OD/distortion pedal for home use to get a good distorted sound, and theres a venue my band is playing sometimes where we are forced to run through fender amps, which do not overdrive nicely!

Re: ZVEX Distortron

which pedal are you looking at?  He makes a few dirt pedals...boosts, fuzzes, OD.

Re: ZVEX Distortron

The Distortron one. I notice now that when reading quickly it does still look like it says Distortion haha.

This one.

Re: ZVEX Distortron

I have a hand painted Zvex Box Of Rock which has the same distortion circuit.  It sounds like a cranked Marshall JTM45.  It also has a very amp-like feel.  It cleans up real nice with a twist of the guitars volume knob.  I've owned this pedal for a few years now and it's been a joy to use.  Incredible tone!

Thanks ModTourMan.
I'm now stuck as to whether to buy this or the MXR Distortion III.
Though that Vox Satchurator seems quite good too.

There are lots of sound sample demos of the Box of Rock on YouTube.  Just keep in mind that it has a Marshall JTM45 type tone...a little "flubby" and loose on the bass side.  It's much different than most other distortion boxes or tube screamer type pedals although I see the Distortron does have two additional switches that allow you to adjust the bass and gain a bit.  Good luck on the search and let us know how you make out!
