Topic: Marshall JVM

Whats the general consensus around here on the JVM??? Good? Bad? POS?
The control layout seems pretty easy to understand and the programmable footswitch is cool.

Is it kinda like the Jack-Of-All-Trades Marshall?? What does it do best, worst, low vol tones, gig vol tones etc...

Would I be better off just buying a new QuickRod for my blues/Rock (JB stuff) and Hair Metal stuff (Dokken, VH)???? Something similar to a Quickrod or JVM?? I have looked at Titans, Peters, Budda etc....

Re: Marshall JVM

I have one ( as well as a TSL100 ) and it's a damn great amp. It can do classic rock, blues, hard-rock and metal and shine on all styles.

Re: Marshall JVM

f**kin great! I would love to own one but as a student you have to save some money first...
My suggestion is to combine it with a 4x12" Marshall Vintage Box with Greenbacks.
A real pro is that it sound great eqally if you play on a big stage or next to your parents' sleeping room  lol
As Chris told it can do about everything you want.
The 50W can save 6 sound presets, the 100W version 12 presets (but 6 is more than you'll need...)
Includes a nice reverb, two master volume knobs (switchable) and can be controlled via midi.

For me its perfect, it's near to Gary Moore's sound if you just plug in a guitar into the jvm and set it to the crunch channel.
Oh and of course for a marshall it ain't too expensive!

I love Marshall  cool

Re: Marshall JVM

I noticed that they are selling for around 1200 used right now which makes this pretty affordable right now for me.

I have been using my room-mates DSL100 for the last month or so and I like it... and most people say that DSL isn't in the same league as a JVM.

I need the versatility of a JVM for my 2 bands (blues, blues/Rock band and Hair Metal cover band). The 2 channel version doesn't have the OD1 channel which has more mids than the mid scooped OD2 channel.

I was just curious as to how good it can do the modded marshall thing for the hair metal band... we play a lot of Dokken, VH, Ratt, Scorpions etc. The DSL does it ok but it feels like something is missing.

Is the low-mid gain plexi stuff passable (ie Free, Cream, Zep, ZZ top)?? I don't need to nail a vintage plexi sound but ballpark would be nice. Of course any reccomendations to getting JB's tone on a JVM would be nice as well

FYI my guitars are a Clapton strat with a 13k hot gold bridge, Edwards goldtop lp and a charvel so cal...

Re: Marshall JVM

Keep the gain under 12:00 for the OD1/2 channels ( I stick around 10:00 most of the time and that's on the orange modes ) and you'll be in the modded 80's marshall+OD pedal realm for sure.  The crunch red channel is where the heavy blues tone is if you can push the amp loud enough, otherwise OD1 green is your best bet. As with all Marshalls, keep the presence and treble low and the mids high to get the best tone out of it.
