Topic: When amp Blending does the Fender Stay Clean?

This may have been covered somewhere else, I've had a look but couldn't find anything on it.

When pairing and blending the Marshall amp tone with the Fender tone, does the Fender stay clean or does it get pushed to break up as well?

I have started running a Sovtek MIG 60 through a 4X12 and would like to blend it with a Fender amp so I can switch back and forward AND blend together.

I haven't got the Fender amp yet and was thinking of a Blues Junior, only thing is though at 15 watts, to compete with my Sovtek running on about half the little Fender would be well broken up (if he could even keep up at all!)

Then I thought perhaps that's what you would want in that situation?
Or do I have to look for 'Twin Levels' of clean headroom?

PS, I don't have much money left to cover an expensive Fender amp, as I have to buy an ABY Switcher etc.

Please help guys.

Guitars: 95 Les Paul Standard, Relic Strat,
Amps: 1973 Marshall JMP 50 head and Vintage Modern Cab. I use no effects other than a Cry Baby on occasions.

Re: When amp Blending does the Fender Stay Clean?

are you asking literally or theoretically?

I think there could be a couple schools of thought. here is two off the top of my head.

#1 you could make the Fender clean 100% of the time with reverb and a slight delay. when you wanna get dirty, kick in the Sovtek with some crunch. If you go this route, you can put the distortion pedal on the way to the Sovtek only. You can leave the Fender on while the Sovtek is dirty and you'll get a specific sound.

I play regularly through a Sovtek Mig 50 and I use that for my Fender tone next to a JCM 800... where the sovtek is brighter and always stays clean with a holy grail reverb.

#2. if you want them BOTH to be distorted when its go time, you can make the sovtek darker (marshall) and the Fender Channel brighter. The two combined will give you a different tone. When I do this I make a JCM 800 scooped EQ and put a brown sound pedal from generalguitar website through the sovtek and keep it bright.

I own a blues jr yes it will distort naturally if you crank it. you might be forced to go half volume to the loudest clean you can get and then mic it.

Also if I could recommend a AB/Y I'd get the Radial. Great company, quality, and cost effective.
