Re: best guitar

I'm currently saving my hard earned for a PRS DGT David Grissom Signature. I loved the look of that guitar from when i first saw one. Ithey are hard to come by in music shops but I got to try one out in guitar guitar in glasgow. That is the best guitar I have ever played. The split coil sounds are amazing. For me the bridge bucker split was like a tele and the neck like a strat. I'm going to order one in a couple of months and can't wait. The pickups on that guitar were modelled after grissoms 1959 335 i believe.

Re: best guitar

egads - people can go forever on this one.

I'd go with a solid body electric with humbuckers. Probably a Gibson. Which Gibson? The one that you like and feels like an extra arm. No two will feel the same or sound the same. I'd recommend checking out a Les Paul, SG, or Firebird. You just have to find "yours." It's like picking out a girlfriend and asking your friends who you should date. Is there a wrong answer? You can probably make anything work, but only a few can be "right" for you.

PRS and Ernie Ball Music Man makes great solidbody electrics with humbuckers too. If you got the money, get one of these or a Gibson.

How you want to sound makes an impact on guitar choice, but generally - I'd start there.

i realise now Joe has touched on the whole Les Paul v Strat thing but in some ways it seems he switched simply to find his sound rather than just being called the latest SRV

maybe there is no best guitar? but is there? thanks Joe smile

Re: best guitar

Ireally is whats best for you... I really like the feel of a strat, but the sound of a les paul. So Im trying some hybrid stuff to see what I come up with. This would be easier if you knew what you like in a guitar, but I am doing a custom build from warmoth.com and building a guitar exactly how i want it... Strat style body, but instead of the traditional body woods used in strats I am having one made out of mahogany with a maple top, which is the construction of a Les Paul.

Block inlay Gibson ES-335, 50th anniversary American Strat, '61 RI White SG, '62 RI Relic Strat, Replica Korina Flying V, Gold Tone Paul Beard Resonator,  '58 Les Paul RI, American Highway 1 Fender Strat, Breedlove Acoustic, Stonetree Joe Bonamassa Custom, HIWATT Lead 100R, Reeves Custom 30.

This sounds a lot like Tom Anderson guitars!

Re: best guitar

Oh- well then its a tom anderson rip-off but 1-1.5k cheaper:D . Either way, I just ordered the body lastnight. I decided to go with the Dimarzio Pro Track in the bridge, it's almost PAF sounding. very warm. This will be a fun build. I wanna do a matching tele next.

Re: best guitar

there is much fun in building your own guitar from parts. I've done two already myself. Can't justify buying a whole strat. big_smile

Re: best guitar

S#!T No budget I say go with a 59' LP and get it over with big_smile

Re: best guitar

for me it would be easy, if singlecoils, than some custom shop strat, if humbuckers than Les Paul:)

Re: best guitar

good one Paulie now if you have a spare few hundred thousand i'll take the 59 smile

i always figured an LP was better than a Strat but since SRV was God on a Strat i am trying to make sure before i make my purchase

Re: best guitar

I have a 59' vos and I also have a Fender custom deluxe strat and love them both and to tell you the truth IMO they are at both ends of the spectrum as far as feel and grove . I have average size hands and the strat to me is a better fit but there is something about that 59' log that you just know its there  big_smile  I just bought a 60' vos and I feel it fits my hands perfectly and I can play w/ alot more ease . So what I'm trying to get at is besides being a gear junkie , is to try all brands and styles w/ and open mind don't go by brand alone go with the feel and your heart and enjoy . Remember if there was one pefrect guitar for everyone there would be only one guitar company and that would sure a sh#t be boring . Good Luck , Paulie

cheers Paulie

Re: best guitar

My orange Jackson custom shop....Maple/koa, 7 piece neck thru with a bear claw spruce top, yep spruce on a solid body.  Hand made by Pablo Santana for the '06 NAMM.  Don't look for one at the guitar center, this is one of a kind. Played it for the first time in 8 months this weekend, it should be called a "Crackson", I was trying to get away from trem spaced guitars.  Looks like the pauls and other customs are gonna sit for a while.

Where the hell does one get a black-backed gold top anyway?
