Topic: How do you position your practice space?

we have a problem with hearing vocals. here is how I have my room setup. It's like a 14x20 foot room.
we either have feedback problems, or trouble hearing the vocals. Open to suggestions!
-------------------------------------
l PA       bass                     PA
l                        mic
l drums              mic
l                                monitor
l guitar    guitar  mic
l-------------------------------------

PA=pa speaker
bass= bass amp
guitar= guitar amps
mic= vocal microphone
monitor - floor monitor

From what I can see here- you are getting some good bleed from the guitar and bass amps-

Clearly the room is small- so some bleed is gonna happen

We run our mons and mains facing at us during practice and try and keep the amps far enough so they don't give a ton of signal bleed. You appear to be doing a club set up as if this was your stage- get those mains coming back at you and move both PA mains to the top left and bottom left of the picture-

Re: How do you position your practice space?

our PA speakers are facing like this...
-------------------------------------
lPA->       bass                   <- PA

with everything else facing this way -> the far right side of my sketch has a stair case going up, that we face.

should both PA speakers be behind the drummer? I was thinking of putting them to the far upper and lower right corners, much like a gig (like you said)

Ugh- my mistake- Yes, I meant upper right and lower right based on the diagram. Typically the mains won't be behind you (or behind the drummer so you are fully reliant on the mons-

Get every bit of vocal coming at the singers for practice-

Not alot of options in 14X20 but yeah, get those mains speakers out front of the group and coming back at you.

~             KB &  mic                            PA

                           Guitar
Mon                       &   mic
Drums                                                          >>>
Mon

               Bass & mic                          PA

KB and Guitar can be switched.  This setup works in a 15 X 20 room (mine) if nobody gets stupid with instrument volumes.

Re: How do you position your practice space?

I'm trying putting all the amps & speakers against he long wall and having everyone facing the speakers. We'll see how that works out.

Sorry Nic for not being prompter...
The PA mains face away from the band.  The bounce back off the wall combined with the monitors by the drummers (on the floor facing up) bleeds off some off the treble AND we have all instrument amps facing the center of the room.
