Topic: Henrik Freischlader -New CD

Henrik Freischlader has been mentioned before on the forum but I MUST do it again!!
He has a new CD out called "Recorded by Martin Meinschaefer" and it is a masterpiece!
Henrik is the number 1 German bluesartist these days. Joe knows him too, Henrik was his supportact on the  Germanytour 2 years ago. Michael Lynch, Geko and myself saw them  in Hannover where Joe  and Henrik did a brilliantjam at the end of the show. He also was supportact for BB King, Jethro Tull, Johnny Winter, Gary Moore to name a few.
He  is very   original and that makes him  different from most bluesartists.
The last years there are so many new bluespowerbands like Stoney Curtis, Danny Bryant, Walter Trout etc, I like them all very much but Henrik has, like Joe , more variety to offer.

I see him more like a German Joe in his vision of the blues, sometimes very pure slow intense  then hard, acoustic then electric, rocky then bluesy.
Many songs on this CD have a change you wouldn't expect, you think it's a quiet song and then suddenly he pulls your leg with another tone, melody etc.

The title of the new CD is a thank-you to Martin  Meinschaefer, who did the recording in his studio and the soundresult is like Joe's TBOJH the best you can get. The sound is warm, deep, full ,rich. The CD  is a DigiPack with a 20 pagebooklet.

What Henrik seperates from almost every artist is that on this CD he plays ALL instruments HIMSELF, guitars, bass, drums , Hammond organ, he does all the singing too and he wrote all the songs himself, music and lyrics!!
A multi-instrumentalist.

I would say : have a listen, it  is worth  a 100%.

A tip: Use a headphone to hear all the shades, gradations!!

It's like TBOJH a CD you like more and more  everytime you listen to it!!

Re: Henrik Freischlader -New CD

I really enjoyed what I heard of him at Schoeppingen last summer and would have been very keen to hear what's new until you mentioned that he plays everything himself which, I have to admit, puts me off a bit as it reminds me of Todd Rundgren. neutral

Of course, it's very impressive to be able to play all instruments yourself, but hey, can he do it live? roll No doubt you will try to convince me, Andre!? wink

Finally, I'm embarrassed to have to pull you up on anything to do with blues rock since you know infinitely more than I do, BUT I really can't let you get away with classifying Walter Trout among "new bluespowerbands"! Really! big_smile

RIP Iron Man

Re: Henrik Freischlader -New CD

I love his new CD. And I am waiting to see him live for the first time. He is doing a big German and Swiss tour starting end of February. We´ll see him together with Oli at the Rother Bluestage (near Nürnberg), of course not alone, but as Henrik Freischlader Band including bass, keyboards and drums.

Re: Henrik Freischlader -New CD

From the posts above you will see that Henrik Freischlader has been mentioned on the forum a few times and after an email from my editor about him I’ve now immersed myself in his music. Henrik is a German born blues/rock guitarist, and singer. In the last week I’ve paid proper attention to his music, and I particularly like his live album (3 CD!) and his jazz blues project 5Live. It’s original blues with slight references to his idols (Gary, Rory, Stevie, Greeny).

However today I have received his new album Recorded By Martin Meinschäfer and on first listen it is apparent that this is a real step up in his song writing from rockin’ blues to melodic blues ballads to dirty slide guitar this album has it, yet it also has that slightly more commercial touch which given the right exposure could really see this man make it big. If you are not familiar with Henrik Freischlader as yet, I’d strongly recommend it, and also a big thanks to chose who tried to tell me about him earlier, and those who have given more more information about him, particilarly Andre and Eva!  Already I feel this will remain very high in my top albums of 2010.

Here’s a few clips.

Re: Henrik Freischlader -New CD

George only this CD Henrik plays all instruments by himself, it was a project he always wanted to do. On tour he has his band with him.
And about Walter you are right of course concerning new band. I remember seeing him live first in Neede, a small village, just after he left John Mayall's Bluesbrakers. Then I bought his first Provogue CD Life in the Jungle from 1990. So he is not a newcomer!! I think still his best CD.

Thanks Greenose for your reply, great you like him as well.
My story about him with interview is now on www.bluesmagazine.nl with pictures from Marco.
Henrik would love to tour the UK once so if anyone can do something for him over there please  contact me or bluesmagazine. We try to get a Dutch tour overhere in September/October as well.
And Guenter have fun March 26 and und bitte gruesse Henrik von mir! I'll see him in Muenster and Rheinberg.
Please spread the word for him too ! Thank you.

Re: Henrik Freischlader -New CD

Yeah - all you Bonabuddies should give this guy a listen - he's excellent!!!!

Re: Henrik Freischlader -New CD

Yes, yes, yes. Henrik's latest cd is a masterpiece.
It's a wunderful chilling blues album.
And it's so incredible that Henrik plays every instrument himself.
I knew that he plays the guitar but all the other instruments, that was a surprise.
I'll see him in May in Rheinberg and I'm thinking of going to another gig in February in Wuppertal. That's his home town, so the atmosphere could be very special.

Re: Henrik Freischlader -New CD

Because of you all recommending him i now have him planned in my March tour smile

09.03. Aachen, Jakobshof

We'll see.

Re: Henrik Freischlader -New CD

Blues Sissi I'll be in Rheinberg (and  Muenster too! ) .Hope to meet you in Der Scharzer Adler.

We'll see us in Rheinberg, then.
I hope that there will be someone on the drums who is as good as Henrik. I love the way he drums in track 5 and 12.
I've heard that Martin Meinschäfer will accompany the whole tour to take care of a first class sound.

Re: Henrik Freischlader -New CD

See you there Blues-Sissi!

You are right, Martin will be on the whole German tour for the sound!

Hmhm, did you forget that Mr. Freischlader opened for Joe back in 2007? If I´m not totally mistaken I remember some dude standing next to me during that show ... I believe it was you.  tongue

But yeah, looking forward to Henrik´s show as well (AND Oli´s of course!) ... up to now I think he was at his best with the 5Live Band, but I´m ready for the new Henrik Freischlader band experience. And Ben will see his first "German Blues Band" as well.  smile

Re: Henrik Freischlader -New CD

Sorry to disagree Eva, but I think his new one is his best. Andre called it a masterpiece. He could be right.

I wrote an extended review of Henrik's new album on my new facebook page, if you're still not convinced, have a read of that: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/not … 8281208030  smile

Re: Henrik Freischlader -New CD

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHHBc4dz6vg I loved another woman by Henrik. Love his voice on this slowed down version.

Re: Henrik Freischlader -New CD

Thanks all of you for the support. I hope it will lead to a little tour in Holland, Belgium and the UK soon and some festivals next year.
( if there is interest please contact me and I'll tell Henrik, as we all know: Spread the word !)
He deserves it. For me he has a lot in common with Joe, same vision on music, blues, young, nice person, a bit sky and brilliant musicians.
