Topic: John Terry, any opinions ?

As Bluesman (Roy) started the Tiger Woods thread like this......
And acts as a good template for the John Terry story!

Well unless you haven't watched TV, listened to the radio or read the newspapers recently, that would be about the only way you wouldn't know about, John Terry's recent off field activities.
Anyone have anything to say about it (this side of the pond) or not, or shall we ignore this one ?

For those who want to know more, or not living in the UK. google, John Terry.

Re: John Terry, any opinions ?

Well............. As a first round adversary in the upcoming Cup, your ex-captain's dalliances have left me with a certain feeling of glee. The first G hit was a tabloid front page in full color. The banner read: ENGLAND IN CRISIS! lol

I think it is a stealth tactic by our national fan underground to bury your lads in babes. Seems to come with the territory at the world class level.

I read yesterday, our England Manager (Fabio Capello) in a meeting with John Terry, took only 10 minutes to strip Terry of the captaincy. smile

Re: John Terry, any opinions ?

That is a good sign that Capello is fully in charge and will brook no shenanigans from the boys. Terry has a world of hurt coming from the tabloid press. (To say nothing about the hurt coming from the wife! mad ) There is no way it is not going to affect his play on the pitch for quite some time.

Chelsea are playing Arsenal this afternoon, so Terry can look forward to a barrage of abuse every time he touches the ball.

Re: John Terry, any opinions ?

John Terry cheated on his wife , the other woman was a free agent at the time. Nothing else to the story , the press are making far too much out of it

Re: John Terry, any opinions ?

Good that Capello has acted quickly. I read he considers the captains role in soccer as being overated, expecting ALL of his players to show the required levels of leadership on the field. I think he has a point.

For the English, even British mentality, it is an important role and as such Terry's off the field behaviour, not just this time either, should rule him out. Unfortunately, his successor is no better with 4 driving convictions and a ban for failing to take a dope test, plus the new vice captain has recently stood trial on charges of grievious or was it actual, bodily harm!

This then is the sorry state of affairs. Overpaid, witless individuals given a leadership role without the sense or moral integrity to serve it with a shred of respect, to others or themselves.

When I see John Terry, Rio Ferdinand or Steve Gerrard being hailed as shining examples of leadership I know the world needs a reality check.

The late Bobby Moore wasn't a saint. He liked a drink and didn't always conform. But he wasn't a lout or an oaf in the boorish manner of John Terry. They both came from Barking Essex. They both wore an England No. 6 shirt and both captained their country. But one was a gentleman with a degree of class and is sadly missed whilst the other isn't and won't be.

Rant over:D

Re: John Terry, any opinions ?

JT is what he is, and perhaps wrong of us to expect anything more? He is not from the type of close rich family background of Frank Lampard and Jamie Rednapp (examples) yet he has with determination and drive become a very successful player.

The mistake if there was one was in making him captain in the first place, he did n't take a genius to work out the negative side of his character, his Secondary school Head Teacher could have told anybody!

The BIG negative of this is that once again it had been trial by media.

My YouTube channel with plenty of my Joe's videos dating from 2009 inc his first Hammersmith Odeon ones:

Re: John Terry, any opinions ?

Making Terry the captain of England is the first mistake Fabio Capello has made as the manager. Not sure Rio will be captain going into the World Cup. A lot can happen from now, till then.

09/02/
Looks like Terry has bought his mistress off. A fig of £800.000 has been quoted to keep quiet.
Newspapers are now offering up to £250.000 to dish the dirt.
