Topic: Metro Amp Superlead 100 demo...WOW!!!

Hey guys, I figured I'd just start another thread for this clip and let the other one die. mad lol Here she is in all her glory:

My playing is not very good in this clip as I had just woken up (couldn't wait to play this thing!!!) but you get an idea of the tones.  It's an absolutely stunning sound in person.  Although the tone is decent in the video it's not a very accurate representation.  In person it's total '88 ACL ere Eric Johnson, which is a dream come true for me.  Neatest part is that with the baffle and those particular EQ settings, it's not unbearable to be in the same room with.  I'm still getting earplugs to be safe, but it's not brutal by any stretch.  More clips to come in the near future:

I'm in the midst of building a goliath rig and I haven't decided whether I'm blending them together or keeping them seperate.  Currently I'm thinking about using the clean channel of the DSL100 for cleans, the gain channel for my humbucker rhythm tones, and the Metro for single coil rhythm and single coil/humbucker leads.  I'm just tickled to death that I've nearly achieved that hallowed '88 ACL EJ lead tone! I'm going to experiment with my Octafuzz later to see how well it does the Henrix stuff...

LOL No WAY jose!  I find that the volume is a big part of the tone unfortunately, but it still sounds great at lower volumes.  Honestly it's not that loud.  My camera is nothing fancy and is very prone to mic clipping.  However, the camera was maybe 5 feet away and was able to take the volume.  The baffle really helps alot, and I'm thinking about building an isolation baffle for my cab just in case.  I DO NOT want to do anything that will take away from what I've got dialed in now.

PS Ken shoot me an email and we'll have us an epic gear-a-thon!  I work weekends, but I'm off during the week.  I'd love to hear your OD2-100 rig cranked up man!  Let me know when it's convienient for you man.  Peace!

Classic marshall tones , but the tubedriver really nails the EJ tone I would love to have a go playing with that tone cool
just show you you dont need original 68/69 plexis to get that classic tone. and I am sure once the components burn in a little it will sound even better congtats man  big_smile

Justin , do you find this raw sound to be more articulate and harder to play ie shows up the most subtle of mistakes etc
or is it the sheer volume that amplifies any nuance. I find if I plug into super satutated amps you can get away with murder big_smile

Thanks Derek!  To answer your question, I find that this type of amp is very revealing.  It is hyper articulate.  As Ben warned me, the Superlead is a bit cleaner than I expected.  You kind of have to dig in to have it give up some decent distortion.  If you don't have good technique can make you sound sloppier.  I'm having to deal with this, and hopefully it makes me a better player.  When the tube driver is added it really fattens the tone and adds sick amounts of sustain.  This in turn compresses the sound some and makes it much more forgiving.  The Superlead is no where near as compressed as my HRM100, which is the most forgiving amp that I own.  I cannot wait to run my Les Paul, SG, and PRS through this thing!  More demos to come.

No, but he offers a clone of the 70's Master volume era Marshalls.  I think that a Jubilee would be the next place to go from there.  A Jubilee clone from George would be BEYOND cool!  Because there is a lot more going on inside a Jubilee than say your average 4 input Marshall, he may need more staff to make it a reality.

Wow thats great stuff! Indeed those kind of amps come cleaner and more direct.
I tend to play physical harder whenever I play them. But you get rewarded by this
great sound. The strat sounds damn cool. Will you try to pair it with other amps?

Hey Justin, great playing and a great clip! The tone of that Plexi is simply stunning..... must have been built by a true master. LOL. All kidding aside, I enjoyed the project. I'm glad you got the tone you were looking for.....Just don't be beating up on my little JTM45 with it. I cant wait to hear what it sounds like once its broken in and it gets those NOS pre's you've got stashed!!

I cranked up the OD2 a few day ago. It just kept sounding better and better as the volume got higher (of course, it's a 100 watt head!)  tongue . I couldn't believe how big the little 1x12 sounded with the EV in there. The OD2 is a beast, excellent hard rock tones. I did a little A/B test with the Budda Superdrive 45 through the same little cab and I have to say the Budda held it's own.I'm getting ready to send the CA to Alan for his latest upgrades.

"Sick day" eh?  More like SICK GEAR day!  I forgot that you had a Superdrive 45.  I remember wanting one really bad after seeing Joe demo one on the Budda website.  My dad's JTM45 clone really apes that tone well, perhaps with a little less versatility.  Just want to re-state how insanely badass the Metro is...I played it yesterday and it left me speachless!  Even with the crappy tubes that came with it, it still sounds like magic.
