Topic: Rory Gallagher

I thought I'd share some interesting info I picked up on the Clapton site.

"Some pics of the museum and what's being shown can be seen at: http://www.rorygallagher.com/news.htm

The 'RockChic exhibition in Dublin features 32 of Rory's guitars and also a few of his amps, as part of a quite outstanding guitar exhibition sub-titled 'The Life And Times Of The Electric Guitar 1931 - 2006'.

The exhibition runs from November 24th 2006 to January 21st 2007 and is planned to move to Harrods, Knightsbridge, after Dublin to help celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Way-In department, which Rory and Taste played the launch gig for in '67.

The venue is The National Museum Of Ireland, Collins Barracks, Dublin 7. Admission is free.

Opening Hours (main galleries):
Tuesday – Saturday 10am - 5pm
Sunday 2pm - 5pm
Closed Mondays (incl bank holidays)

Late night opening to RockChic exhibition on Thursdays until 8pm"

Also...

"Aside from having opened for Cream in Ireland, Taste was also the opening act for Blind Faith's tour in '69.

In 1972 he was voted Melody Maker's Top Musician of the Year, dethroning Eric Clapton. Generally regarded as one of the top ten guitarists ever, many of today's top musicians, including U2's The Edge, Slash of G'n'R fame, Johnny Marr of the Smiths and Brian May of Queen cite Rory as an inspiration in their formative musical years. It is also well documented that the Rolling Stone auditioned Rory for the band in the 70's, which he refused preferring to go tour in Japan.

And last but not least, the EC quote I was looking for:
"The man who got me back into the blues. An uncompromisingly serious musician" Eric Clapton, The Times, 16th June 1995."
