Topic: Dual dsl's

How does Joe set his dsl's when he is using that rig instead of his normal one?

Thanks,
Logan

Hey Everybody,
The Two JCM 2000 DSL's are good for the fly in shows.. I use two of them into one cabinet set to stereo.  I use the clean channel one set to crunch on set to clean and turned up to about 7 each with the gain at 10.  I use a tubescreamer that is always on for the gain.  I vary the tone by using the volume and tone controls on the Les Paul.  Its a work out but it gets the job done.  It sounds pretty close not as complex in the mids.. But Warren knows how to make it sound good always... it make its easy for me having him do the sound..

From a previous post when Joe did a fly in gig in Manchester - late 2008 - I was there :-)   Hope this helps !

Re: Dual dsl's

awesome! Im about to try my take at a mini-JB rig. Im buying a DSL next week, and I think that instead of a plexi clone (very expensive) I think I'll do two DSL's (Joe used two Silver Jubilees at one point) with two dumble style amps... probably a ceriatone and something else.

Plexi clones don't have to be expensive...there are plenty of affordable options out there.  You can find some killer deals on PCB Marshall Reissues which are pretty decent.  My Metro '69 Superlead kit was $500 less than what my HRM100 cost me.  Check The Gear Page amp emporiums or craigslist for deals.  A second DSL would work okay, especially if you EQ it right and use the classic channel.  That one seems the most plexi-like to my ears.  Good luck putting your JB rig together!

Re: Dual dsl's

What I don't understand with this is why Joe uses the Classic channel at all with the DSLs. To me, the Lead 1 Channel sounds a lot more like the Jubilee sound and without the Tubescreamer on all the time; the Classic channel sounds more plexi-ish to me.

Can anyone shed some light?

I suggest you read through the "sticky" thread on Joe's "big reverberated sound" within the Amps and Gear section. You've kind of answered it yourself though... In Joe's normal rig the Jubilee is always on and so is any one of the other three amps. Each of which is different but complementary to the Jubilee. So for example most (possibly all)  of Just Got Paid Today is the Jubilee + Category 5 (Plexi with mid boost). It's the combination of two different amps together, not the combination of two identical amps.

So Lead 1 Channel on it's own (with no other amps) probably IS the best approximation of Jubilee + Cat 5 (for example)?
