Topic: Wireless in to a Fuzz Face Question

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to the forum and have a technical question. Joe is a true Tone-Hound but how does he manage to get decent tones from his Fuzz-Face when it's fed from a wireless system? I have studied the way Joe uses the volume controls on his Les Pauls to truly great effect but Old skool (Un-buffered) Fuzz pedals don't really work that well with anything other than a decent lead delivering a good High impedance signal.

Sorry to get all technical on my first posting but can anyone help?

All the best from London, England.

Re: Wireless in to a Fuzz Face Question

Very expensive wireless system no doubt.
Wireless systems have a buffer in them, thats adjustable too so if you have a longer line of pedals then you can give it an extra kick to get to the end clearer.
Also, that fuzzface might not be true bypass, it is custom made...I'm not sure on the specs of it.

Re: Wireless in to a Fuzz Face Question

Thanks Jimi-lp,

I believe that the Fuzz Face that JB uses is a Dallas-Arbiter model that may have been given to Joe by Eric Johnson. The one I use is the Cornell 1st Fuzz which are hand built by Denis Cornell, he used to build the original Dallas-Arbiter models in the late sixties and these are supposedly base on them.

His fuzz-pedal isn't the first pedal in the chain, there is a aby-box first and maybe some other pedals too.

Re: Wireless in to a Fuzz Face Question

One thing to keep in mind with Joe is that he uses his Fuzzface for a really thick fuzzy lead tone with that "one the edge of explosion" type sound.  Every time I see him using it he doesn't really seem to be working the volume knobs for cleaner sounds...that's what the other amps are for.  I don't think the whole buffer-in-front-of-the-fuzz issue really bothers him because he uses it that way.  It's a great fuzz tone regardless!
