Topic: Does anyone else miss this program?

Don Kirshner's Rock Concert.

I used to love it. 90 minutes of great live performances.

Check out the list of acts who played. Those were the days!

Hey Stu,

Your link didn't go to the right page (apostrophe missing I reckon). Try this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don_Kirshn … ck_Concert

And yes, I do remember the show. For some reason I don't have a specific recollection of any concert, but I do remember Don's rather "dry" introductions.

I too remember it Stu. Here's one during Ozzy Osbourne's more alert days, if there was such a time:

I remember seeing Grand Funk Railroad on his show and was amazed.  That Mel Bassman was playing R&B basslines and they were kicking it hard.  I sat there with my date (at the time) with my mouth open.  In hindsight not a BIG deal but...
white boys from Flint?  NAH... even the hoodlums and gangsters were dancing.

I was impressed...just RAW.

I looked for that footage and found this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wWMTKlyBRIg The discription is pretty interesting but it appears the Don Kirshner footage is locked up. Stu another GFR fan in the house.

Re: Does anyone else miss this program?

I truly LOVED this show.  I can remember seeing many for the first time there and if the nerve was struck, a purchase was in order for the future.  I can recall seeing Rush prior to them hitting it big, REO when they rocked hard, Kansas when the wheat field was ankle high, Van when he was becoming the man, and scores more. LOVED IT! I commanded the TV and would be the ONLY one up in the house to watch it as it was on AFTER The Midnight Special which WAS on at midnight and lasted an hour and a half itself.  Like The Midnight Special, I believe Don Kirschner's Rock Concert is being offered in piecemeal infomercial format, pretty sure I saw it once but I could be wrong.  Great stuff, bring it back!

Re: Does anyone else miss this program?

Rocket, I've seen the infomercial and if memory serves I think there's a past topic about DKRC floating around here somewhere, or maybe it was brought up under another, you know how subject matter can stray around here.

Yeah it's mixed in here:

I remember all those dagnabbit!  Rock Concert was I think 2 artists, In Concert was 1 only? And the Midnight Special was 3-4.   Heady days.  We didn't even have VCR's yet... Shoot, many didn't have cable yet.
