Topic: Stoney Curtis band

I've been digging on Stoney's sound ever since I got turned on to him through this forum (thanks go to Michael and Andre I think). I've been frustrated since he doesn't tour on the east coast but I finally got a chance to see him in Las Vegas on Saturday night. The band played from 10 PM to 2:30 AM with two short breaks. I went with fellow Bonamassa forum members Richard and Dana from KC who drove up from a vacation in Arizona for the show. Stoney had us all completely gobsmacked with his performance! We got to chat a bit with him between sets. He was completely blown away when I told him that I had come from NY to see him play! Well, not exactly, as I was in town for a convention of sorts and also got to see Eric Sardinas two days earlier.

Anyhow, here are three videos I shot with my crappy little outdated camera. I really do need to get something a little newer with a ton of more memory!

Re: Stoney Curtis band

Love a bit of Stoney, thanks for posting.

Re: Stoney Curtis band

You are right RIC it was Michael and me who introduced Stoney to this forum about 3 years ago. It was at  the Rockpalast show I saw on TV that I first heard of him.
But a surprise for me and all forumpeople too overhere: Stoney does a short European tour this April .

april10  Rhede -Germany      The Blues
april 11 Brunssum- Holland- Woetsjok
april 12 Verviers Belgium
april 14 Frankfurt Germany
April 15 Arnstadt  Germany -Jungfernsprung
April 16 Berlin Germany
April 18 Aschaffenburg Germany. - Dead End.

April 9-13-17-19 are still open. Anyone with a venue in who is interested to book him please send me an email, I'll send it to his promoter. He is worth all the support!!
All forummembers who read this and have the oppertunity, , please go to one of his shows, you won't be disappointed.

Thanks for your message RIC! I told before, he is good. Can send you the Rockpalastd DVD show I recorded from TV. Michael put that one on you tube.

Re: Stoney Curtis band

It would be nice if Stoney would play Glasgow again. He played there two years ago but sadly I did not get a chance to see him then. I believe his wife is from the city so hopefully he will come back sometime. Sadly the first show was not attended well (partly due to poor marketing from the venue).

Re: Stoney Curtis band

As I was told by his German manager, Stoney would love to play the UK again but very hard for him to get shows there. They don't know him too well and venues take less risk now.
Maybe  Joefans in the UK could organise something for him in the future, for example bluesfestivals. must be enough in the country of the British Blues.
Michael, Greenose, Duncan and others get to work. I'm doing the same overhere now.

Re: Stoney Curtis band

Andre I would absolutely love the DVD. If it is in european format it should still play on my computer, or I could have it converted. The friends I went with also attended JB@RAH. I don't know if you or Michael met them but I know George and Cathy did. Anyhow, Richard shot mucho footage on his recorder and I had already asked him for additional copies with M & you in mind.

As far as touring goes, we did have that discussion with Stoney. It's a "getting your foot in the door" issue. As Duncan mentioned, unless people get the word out about Stoney and his band, he won't draw well. I would like to see him at festivals in the eastern US as well.

Hey Tom, I briefly met Dana and Richarsd at the pre-RAH get together when I met you in Hyde Park. Dana is a huge fan of both Joe and Davy Knowles. We started chatting over on the BDS forum not even realizing we already had met. Then I mentioned Joe's show at the RAH over there and we both realized we were there together. Turns out, she had a picture of a bunch of us standing together in the building at Hyde Park. We now E-mail each other all the time! smile

What a small world, hey?

Roy

P.S. They sound like a riot!! Hope to see them this year sometinme. cool

Hey Roy, it's only a matter of time until people who love good Blues & Blues Rock discover Joe and find their way here!
As I've said before, the forum members have extremely good taste in their musical preferences!

Re: Stoney Curtis band

i love this band.  though i know everyone here would probably disagree, i think they are the best band going in bluesrock right now.  i'd like a new album from them.  regardless of whether or not you agree with that, as far as entertainment for your dollar i can't think of a better value anyone.  i paid a five dollar cover, saw him play for 4+ hours and got to talk with the band between sets.  can't recommend seeing them highly enough, best 5 bucks i've ever spent:cool:

If wine and pills were hundred dollar bills
I might keep you satisfied

Re: Stoney Curtis band

Dig it! The Vegas show was free (saw Eric Sardinas 2 days earlier for free as well). The band that opened up for Stoney played for 2 hours then Stoney played for over 3 hours.

I tossed a $20 in the tip bucket, but the show was worth more than that! Talked with Stoney for a bit, had him to sign a copy of "Acid Blues Experience" and got a well-worn signature pick off him too to boot!

Everybody in Germany/Holland/Belgium make sure to see Andre's post earlier in this thread. Stoney puts on a great show and you won't be disappointed!

Re: Stoney Curtis band

I'll be seeing Stoney again on Friday, 3/19 at Steve's BBQ in Whittier CA. I know Steve and Libby are heading off to Phoenix to see Joe yet again (jealous) but the Stoney Curtis band is not a bad 2nd choice! Anyone else from southern California going to be there? Rocket? I know you aren't able to make it to see Joe in Riverside on Wednesday, but I'll have a hotel room nearby where you could crash (Stoney's shows tend to last until the wee hours - the band will play for 3 or 4 hours).
Anyhow, I'll be digging on Blues, Brews & Barbeque!

Michael, that's the plan to tape as much as I can.
You do know that Stoney is doing a short tour in Europe next month (NL, BE, DE). I know Andre will be seeing him.

Re: Stoney Curtis band

Yes RICjunkie,

I'll see Stoney Curtis band tomorrow night in Rhede germany, only 15 km from my hometown Winterswijk!!
Haven't seen him for almost 2 years so it's about time. We will have an Italian meal first, do an interview for www.bluesmagazine.nl and a review from the show too. I'll write something here as well.
Hope more people from the forum check him out, he deserves all credits!

(PS wished you were here as well Michael, we would have a blast!!)

I hope you have the video camera running Andre! The lighting at the last gig I attended was crap, but I've been posting the videos up on FB anyway, because the audio is spectacular. Enjoy dinner and the show!

Everyone, as Andre has said, please check out Curtis's music. He has that rare combination of power and finesse that few guitarists can match.
