Topic: Steepwater Band to support Gov't Mule thru Midwest

The Steepwater Band will join legendary jam-rockers Gov't Mule for a few shows during their 2010 Winter Tour. TSB has supported the Mule once before at Barcelona's Poble Espanyol back in 2007, so Jeff, Joe & Tod are excited to re-join Warrren & the guys on America soil. Gov't Mule began in 1994 as a spawn from the Allman Brothers Band, and has just released "By a Thread", their first studio album in three years.

Feb 03 - Milwaukee, WI - The Rave
Feb 09 - Davenport, IA - Capitol Theatre

The Steepwater Band are playing Bush Hall (don't know the venue but it's in Shepherds Bush not too far from the Empire) on 29th March.

Should I go guys? What do you reckon?

So happy that Rev. Paul talked me into going to see Gov’t Mule with the Steepwater Band opening for them last night at The Rave in Milwaukee. Actually, he mentioned he had a free ticket for me and my immediate response was “YES”! smile

The Steepwater Band is a power trio who play sort of a combination of Country Rockin’ Blues (light on the Country). You’d be hard pressed to find a tighter band anywhere and I’m sure that is a result from how long the three members have been together. I, for one, really enjoyed their opening set as did many in the pre-Mule crowd. Here’s their website:

After a break, Warren and the Guys of Gov’t Mule took the stage and laid waste to the now packed club. What can you say about these guys? Fantastic playing skills with a down to Earth grittiness to their music. Even though Warren Haynes is normally seen playing Gibson LP’s, I was surprised to see him with two different Gibson Firebirds. Those guitars growled when played by Warren. He also played a Gibson SG for a song or two, but mostly it was a Les Paul or a Firebird in his hands.

Gov’t Mule played two sets and I’m not really sure how long they and the Steepwater Band played, but I can tell you that Steepwater started at about 8:00 PM and we left at midnight just before Mule’s encores. A night of fine, hard driving music! cool

It was a fantastic show. Steepwater Band were in great form finishing with a "country blues" rendition of Crossroads.
The 2 Mule sets were fantastic. I had never seen the keyboardist play trumpet before. Great solo exchanges with Warrens guitar. A truly fantastic show.


Now on to the Steepwater Band/Marc Ford shows later this month in Chi-town and Sheboygan.
