Re: Chord Scales

I love Mountain Time-kinda chord changes, so I composed a new song:
Currently it's just midi playback, and the song isn't finished yet, but I really like it, espqcially when the keyboard begins to play.
http://homepage.alice.de/jbjhjm/Ballad.mp3

I'm using these chords:

-|-------------|-3--2--------|
-|-2--3--3--3--|-3--3--3--3--|
-|-2--2--0--0--|-0--2--0--0--|
-|-2--2--2-----|-0--0--2--0--|
-|-0--0--3--2--|-------3--2--|
-|-------------|-3-----------|

You can't use one Pentatonic for a solo, you have to jump between major and minor scale/pentatonic.

well, for your song i would definitely use the Mixolidian mode to improvise, and when the solo explodes, both major/minor pentatonic scales (specially the minor one).

Re: Chord Scales

Only mixolydian will not be enough. In the first bar there's A major and A sus4, but in the second there's the small 3rd of A, so you have to change between for example major/mixolydian and minor/dorian...

Re: Chord Scales

Nice Ballad!

Yeah, those are some nice Changes. Nice Voice Leading too.

My Example was more of something you could use over a single Chord or Tonality. Like in an A Blues, or over a few Bars of Am. Actually, it'll also work over C. (Am/C being Relative).

So, instead of playing 4 Bars of a simple Am Chord, you could Mix and Match those Voicings I wrote out. Maybe make up a nice "Part" for the Rhythm, there.

Re: Chord Scales

Ah ok.
For me it's pretty interesting to mix up major and minor scales in this way... cool
Then I think I'll take a look into my composes-folder and search for something different to add here big_smile

Sorry, I don't know how to write tab, if this makes any sense the low E string is used as a pedal tone I strike it once at the first chord and let it ring out for the rest of the phrase. Emaj. and G#min. work nice here.

you are right. i would definitely use dorian when A turns into Am.

Re: Chord Scales

Here's an idea I see as working well over Am  Dm and Em/E7.

Re: Chord Scales

This would be cool if we all wrote a different song over the same riff or chords. I'm sure we'd all conjur up something totally different! Post to YouTube or something by July?
