Personally i reckon i prefer the tone in the 59 to the joe bonamassa les paul tone. What pickups are in the 59?

That particular guitar is a '58 Custom Shop Les Paul that has since had black hardware and a bigsby installed. I think the pickups in that guitar are either Seymour Duncans or Burstbuckers. With the black hardware and bigsby that guitar has become my favorite of Joe's guitars!
'67 and '74 Fender Twin Reverbs, '74 Marshall 1987 lead mkII, Metro Superlead 100. Pedals from TC Electronic, Ibanez, Dunlop, BK Butler, Electro-Harmonix, Fulltone, Maestro/Gibson, Loopmaster switching, VoodooLab, Boss. Gibson and Fender guitars, Dimarzio pickups.

This video was the very first time I ever heard Joe. I looked his name up after hearing some guy posted a comment on youtube that this "Joe" guy could beat out any guitar player alive. this was the first video that came up and I still love it. I agree... it has a great tone. I like it for "Last Kiss" too- I think the bigsby was a great idea!

Just goes to show you what you can do with 2 marshalls pushing very hard (one set for saturation and one set to high mids and cleaner) and a tube screamer. The guitar has very little to do with what you're hearing there, any LP historic will do... IMHO.

Just goes to show you what you can do with 2 marshalls pushing very hard (one set for saturation and one set to high mids and cleaner) and a tube screamer. The guitar has very little to do with what you're hearing there, any LP historic will do... IMHO.
The guitar has everything to do with the sound here - if you notice this guitar is used on the more "rockin' tunes". No Les Paul is the same or any guitar throughout the same model for that matter... wood selection, wieght, pickups (the same type/brand), even temp./humidity. I have numerous Custom Shop LP's and they all sound different... so I use them for certain applications.

I'm sure you have a better ear for hearing subtle differences in guitar tone than I do, but I've heard Joe play this song live many times, and you can check you tube for different live versions, and I don't think he's used the same guitar twice! He'll use his goldtop, or one of his many other historic LPs interchangeably, and they all sound fantastic through his live rig, or a rented one like in the clip.
You're right though, that in this particular clip, the OP may like this tone especially due to the guitar being used. My point is that most historic LPs will get you 98% there through those amps, effects, and Joe's hands.

All stringed musical instruments exhibit vagaries in construction and variations of the woods used. Look at violins. Even among the Stradivaris each has a unique voice.
Add the combinations of pickups and amps and there are infinite voices available to the guitarist. Why do all the guitar players seek that "magic" instrument, pedal or amp? Just a short while ago, JB was raving about the amp he found that had the Kossoff sound he's been searching for all his life.

Yea it will get you close if you choose the right one for you - every guitar makes you play different, just the same way an amp does. He prob. changes because he is searching for a certain sound and feel over a song... or it could be how that guitar sounds in that atmosphere where temp/humidity/stage/hall become a factor. Joe does it for a reson - because its giving him that certain sound.

Well i tell u what, if/when i get a les paul at some point in my life it will be something resembling that, the btbd and last kiss sort of tones are so great.
