Think I read somewhere the other day that his solo catalogue has just been remastered so they might be worth a punt. A lot of people don't like stuff thats been tweaked by modern tech, but if it has been done well, and normally it is being done by someone who appreciated the artist anyway, I think it adds something.
I liked 'Teaser', but I see from Amazon there is a Boxed set out which has some good reviews. 3 discs with a pot pourri of his stuff including rare demos and outtakes, so maybe that offers a real cross section. Still I'm sure there are some proper Bolin afficianados here you can point you in the right direction. I actually liked his contribution to Purple as well.
Interesting how his name is cropping up a lot these days, a bit like Kossoff, 30 years after his death or so. Great musicians, even if they didn't know at the time, can leave a lasting legacy.
'Teaser' would also be my recommendation!

Yeah, I really dig Teaser also. It has some Rocker as well as his Reggae tinged stuff like the incredible "People, People". Check out the "up and comers" who Tommy had on that disc! Some true heavyweights.
Private Eyes is also great. I dig just how much variety there is, just between these 2 Discs. "Post Toastee" has one of those killin' Jam sessions on it, too.
And go to his website. Tommy's family has a lot of great stuff for sale. Demos, Live recordings, etc.
I also really like "Miami". This is one of the 2 Discs Tommy did as a member of the James Gang. Most people site "Bang" as their fav from the Tommy/James Gang. But, I prefer "Miami".
Thanks for the head's up on the book. I'll have to get that, for sure!
Whips and Roses:)
If you're into the jazzier side of things I can thoroughly recommend Spectrum by Billy Cobham from 1973. Tommy does some dazzling guitar work on the album.
You may recognise Stratus from the album as it's something Joe has played from time to time.

For those of you who have never seen it....or would enjoy seeing it again....I present: Joe and a star-studded group jamming out to Billy Cobham's "Stratus":
