Topic: Mofro

Anyone ever heard of this Florida based band? They have some very tasty front porch soul... almost reminiscent of Derek Trucks.

Re: Mofro

Indeed I have heard of Mofro.....in fact I have heard them enough now, that I recognize them when my son & I are together.  I like them a lot now, too.  Great minds think alike, huh Eric?   wink

Re: Mofro

Yes I've heard of them, kind of know of them as JJ Grey and Mofro. I have the Orange Blossums album, very hot funky stuff. They are taper friendly and there are a good number of live recordings of them legally available. Try this one from Skipper’s Smokehouse

Thanks for the link!! Yeah they recorded two albums as just "Mofro" and then it was J.J. Grey and Mofro for the "Orange Blossoms" album

Re: Mofro

Awesome band!!!!! Have all their cd's and have seen them live twice. Great not only recorded but live also.....where it really counts in my book.

They actually have 4 discs out (not including the "greatest hits" package). 2 recorded under the name Mofro (Blackwater & Lochloosa) and 2 under the name JJ Grey & Mofro (Country Ghetto & Orange Blossoms).

Re: Mofro

Never heard of em before, but MAN are they cool. Loved that song, need to get into more of their material

Re: Mofro

Yep, Mofro are one of my favorites.  One of most "real" bands around in my opinion.  A must see live, just a dirty, down south, rockin show.  JJ's a great songwriter.  Simplicity at its best.  Here's a couple of my favorties, and there ar many.

Re: Mofro

Thanks for the tip on Mofro JBSRV and others. I've just bought Orange Blossoms after reading the recommendations on here and watching the YouTubes.

If you're looking for blistering guitar solos then this isn't for you. If you're after soul and funk flavoured blues then snap up the album up right away. JJ's voice is superb and anyone who can get away with lines like ...

we tried to look away we all tried to be cool
but she had an **** as thick as an army mule’s
she asked out for a drink just a batting those eyes
we all was reaching for our wallets man she’s alight

she's on fire

...is one unique songwriter.

I've come across so much good new music since I've been on this forum. Add this to the list.
