I totally recommend seeing it, as Michael says - it´s well worth the price. I thought the 3D looked a little artificial during the army base scenes, but worked great for all the animated outside scenes ... jaw-dropping at times.

I don't like someone else telling me how I should think.  These hollywood types see one side of the story and try to convince me that their way is right. 

Not that I'm pro war nor anti-environmentalist, as I am neither, I just don't like agendas being force fed down my throat.  It's constant out here on the "Left Coast" and I don't like it.

I haven't, and won't see this movie.

RockFarmer, I feel the same about the Hollywood crowd and the left coast syndrome. However, this movie is great entertainment and the buck or two in profit they make off me will make no difference in the outcome. We see all the anti (fill in the blank) crud everywhere now including movies. Enjoy, smile Rick

edit, I gave up letting politics affect my listening and viewing pleasure after my wife dragged me to a Linda Ronstadt concert.  She sings like an angel. Would you dump JB if he espoused views you disagreed with? 'Nuff said.

Not trying to hijack this into a political post so this will be my last comment on the topic.

Springsteen was my wife's favorite performer until a few years ago when he became more politically outspoken.  She refuses to listen or wath anything he does anymore.  He was on the Kenedy center honors a fe days ago.  She would not watch it.

I pretty much fall into the same category.

Sean Penn got all buddy buddy with Hugo Chavez.  I will NEVER watch ANYTHING he EVER makes again

I respect the fact that performers are people too and have a right to their opinion.  I also respect the fact that most, if not all, performers have more "progressive" views than me.

It's my own personal protest not to support their views.

I'm sure I'll miss some entertaining things due to this, but there is enough great entertainment out there that  doesn't anger me to satisfy my needs.

I saw this movie last night and absolutely loved it!
Typical battle between good and evil, but in a very different form of cinematography.
As far as political agenda, I never even thought of that until I read this thread.

I was totally blown away by this film.
I didn't feel like I just been to the cinema, I felt as though I had been in a different world, I felt so totally immersed in it. So many times I felt like I could stretch out my hand and actually touch the characters or the ferns or the little floaty seeds.

Ever since films have been made they have carried stories of good over evil, there's nothing wrong with that but I would say go see this film in 3D ...it's such a piece of pure escapism, the time absolutely flew by.

I didn't even bother to get the popcorn out of my bag!

Icon, we got there a bit later than I had hoped and ended up on the front row but after a few minutes I was used to it and totally wrapped up in it's spell.

Would I go and see it again.....hang on, I'll get my coat!

just got back...... WOW!!!!!!!

Visually it is superb, and for the me the story made the time go very quickly.

Political agenda? Everything could have a political agenda if that is what you want to read into it, even Toy Story. This was a story about the evil deeds of mankind to date retold in the future.....Fair play to James Cameron for having the cahoonas to tell it....People of a mainly peaceful indigenous population at one with their environment are misunderstood by another race more technological advanced who commit genocide.Perhaps if more people recognised and accepted the negative aspects of our history we could help not make the same mistakes again.

Briefly...read a lot of right wing blogs myself.  Went to see it anyway, cause wife and kids said it was good.  Did NOT see the AGENDA some claimed to be there.  Having some Native American strains in me...saw what they did.  They were part of the life force and reconciled to it... even when killing to eat.

I don't want anybody manipulating me Left or Right...I only swallow what is palatable to me.

Good story.  Great effects.  To each his own.

Avatar was A GREAT movie. I saw it in 3D.

Time will tell how monumental it was, but the graphics were realistic and the plot was buyable. I really enjoyed it.

the only thing I did NOT like was the captions done in the Papyrus font... eeek! Papyrus is right up there with comic sans in my opinion. sad

After reading what most everyone was writing about this movie, and really not knowing much else about it, I thought it might be worth a look. So when our nieces hockey game was canceled, and we had some spare time, we decided to go see it in 3D.

Overall, I would say I have a mixed reaction.

While there is no question that it's a visually stunning achievement in film-making, I thought the screenplay was just WAY too predictable and clichéd. Sorry, but for me, a film is only as good as the story.

Call it an agenda or just a political statement, IMHO it was pretty clear what message the filmmaker was sending. And since we don't discuss those matters on THIS forum, that's all I will say about that.

Really? Best movie?
I watched it in 2D and I'd give 6/10 points.
In my opinion the movie is overrated because of the overwhelming effects.
Movies like Green Mile, Shawshank Redemption, Godfather or Psycho are another level (not the technique, the story, the movie itself).
But even in 2D Avatar was pretty good.

I thought this was a very good movie but agree with Lee that it was pretty predictable. As a movie I'd probably give it a 7 out of 10. As an entertainment experience, a 9 out of 10.

Yeah, that's pretty much my opinion.
After about 50 minutes I was able to guess nearly the exact ending of the movie.
The movie as a movie is alright the movie as entertainment (like a rollercoaster) it's almost perfect.
Maybe I should go and watch it in 3D....
