Topic: What type of blues progression is this?

Okay, so I've heard 3 songs that make me wonder what type of progression this is. "Asking around for you" "I'll survive (B.B. King)" and "I live everywhere" all have this same type of I IV V progression, but it seems like it's a variation on the classic blues progression. Does anybody know what this is called or can help point me in the right direction?

Yes, instead of your usual Minor pentatonic progression, these all have that "happy" or "loving" sounding Major tonality.  Try playing Major pentatonic licks and chords.  The beauty of these tunes are that at times, you can get away with the Minor licks too!  It's fun to mix and match them and my favorite jamming tunes allow you to do this.

whats up with the chords though? they play the IV and then slide up to some other 7th sounding chord....is there like, a set formula to follow for these type of tunes that you can transpose this style to any key?

Um... 1-4-7-1-6-2-5-1 It's a variation an an R&B pattern.  Pick a key... the 2*  & 6 chords would be minor probably. The Bridge jumps to the 6 chord (minor) and I don't remember the rest..sorry.

Thanks jeff! that actually helped out a lot and I have a much better feel for it now...not to mention you explained where it came from which is much better than just knowing "what it is"
