Re: Any New Year's plans?

I have a couple of friends and their wives coming over. The main dish is "Joe Bonamassa Live From Royal Albert Hall" on the wide screen with 65 watts per channel and my 4 3-way speakers strategically placed around the living room. Some tasty snacks, craft beers and single malt scotch round it out. And a bottle of bubbly of course!

Once we can drag ourselves out of bed in the morning and send the women on their way, it's off to the Lake to do some ice fishing!

Happy New Year's to all!

Re: Any New Year's plans?

Hope you can pull off the ingredients Jane. Here is my secret "World's Best" Cevice recipe for about 10

2 lb FRESH! white, firm fish fillets cut into small (3/8-1/2 ") cubes and trimmed of all non-fleshy bits (Halibut is probably your best bet)
1 large or 2 small white onion diced
3 garlic cloves diced
1/2 lb Jicama diced
6 roma tomatoes diced
6 Tomatillo diced (probably hard to find there, omit if unobtainable)
2 bunches of Cilantro- chop leaves, discard stems
6 seeded and diced fresh hot peppers (type depends on constitution of eaters- from Serrano to Jalapeno depending, or a mixture of them. My gang likes it to produce a sweat.)
Juice of 8 limes, 2 lemons and 2 sweet oranges-valencias are best.

Throw it all in a non-reactive container and refrigerate overnight.

Add salt and pepper  to taste, and adjust heat with tabasco if needed before serving.
Serve with mixed blue, white and yellow corn chips that have shape and body to scoop with.

When I make it, there is never any left over at the end of the party. (Sad 'cause its even better the next day)

Enjoy, Rick

Amen to that brother! My wife and I have been spending NYE in a pretty subdued way for the last 10 years. Normally, it's with a handful of neighbors at one of our houses...everyone's within a very short walk of home rather than out driving.
There have been a few years where it's just been me, the wife and the (four) dogs. We always stay up until the clock strikes midnight, but rarely make it past 1 AM.

Saying a prayer is a great idea.

anyone have any good hors d'oeuvres recipes for taking to a party?

Buffalo Chicken Wing dip

in a 9 x 9 pan spread 8 oz of cream cheese

over that 8 oz chopped cooked chicken breast mixed with the wing sauce of your choice.
Medium works best.

Over that spread a jar of Marie's Bleu Cheese dressing

optional - chopped celery stalks over that

serve with crackers or tortilla chips

Well I'm hitting town on new years eve, hopefully catch a decent band the probability is unlikely though unless its a U2 cover band or somet daft (not a band friendly area to live in).. Plans for the year, I have Ocean Colour Scene tickets for Feb, I have Norah Jones tickets!! so gonna see her in June I think it is... Then its save save save planning on having 6 months out to travel across the US (hopefully) gonna get a plane ticket to 1 place and a departure ticket at another and work my way there big_smile and hopefully see some good music, bars and bands whilst doing it wink
